It was the perfect vacation fling. And then a body showed up.

Jane Austen fan Amelia Bennett sneaks away from a dull tour of an English country manor, only to run into a man more dashing than Mr. Darcy himself. About to lose his ancestral home to family debts, charming aristocrat Tom Calder invites his American guest to join him in drinking his way through the estate’s priceless wine collection. But when they wake in his bed the next morning, they’re convinced that in their drunken haze they witnessed a murder.

Problem is, the body has vanished and no one believes them—except the shadowy figures stalking them through the estate's empty halls and lonely woodlands. On the run for their lives, Amelia and Tom must piece together their shifting memories and a string of baffling clues to expose the crime—while navigating their morning-after awkwardness and the undeniable sparks between them. As their unexpected bond deepens, they begin to wonder if their own love story could be one for the ages—if they manage to survive at all.

Being British, I'm always a little nervous about whether I'm going to be forced to listen to terrible British accents and every cliché going, but this was great! Both narrators were excellent at voicing their own accent (hers American, his British), and the opposite accent too.
Everything was brilliantly described and easy to imagine as I listened along. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole story. Very definitely worth a listen and a 5 star review too!

Really enjoyed this ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I liked quite a bit about the book. With a few twists and turns although some were a bit more obvious than others. I also quite liked the narration by both of them, keeping the story interesting. it was a decent driving audio book where you weren't on the edge of your seat but still wanted to know the resolution of the tale. You didn't have to concentrate intensely to every word either and could still kept up with the storyline without getting confused because you missed a bit. The only criticism I would have is lovey dovey bit was maybe a bit too much, but I suppose that's what the story is also partly about.

worth a listen especially for free

The story isn't really a murder story, it's a light, bit silly, romantic story, but entertaining. The choice of readers, or rather, the split of the narration is unfortunate: in the chapters read by the woman, the voice of the men is awful and the English accent ghastly, and when the men reads, the female voices are.... off. They'd have done much better to split the reading based on who's talking.

Light entertaining story, so-so narration

I admit, when I first started this book and saw it open with the characters in bed, I stopped reading. I was worried it would lose the excitement of the “will-they-won’t-they” dynamic, or that the mystery would fade into the background. But when I came back to it later, I was pleasantly surprised.
I had previously read Once Upon a Crime by this author and thoroughly enjoyed it, and this book delivered the same strengths: an engaging yet easy-to-follow mystery, blended with adventure, humor, and just the right touch of romance.
Rarely reach for romance driven books as I often find them predictable or overdone but Brynn Kelly has perfected the balance. The romance feels natural and lighthearted, with moments of humor, while the mystery remains compelling without being overwhelming.
If I had one small critique, it’s that near the end there were a few too many textile references, and I was eager for the characters to just come out with the truth. That said, it didn’t detract much from my overall enjoyment.
This book was a delight to read, and I’ll definitely be recommending it to others

Honestly, the beginning put me off however now I would recommend to everyone
