Before I heard the author’s note I knew this was authentic. My daughter is a paediatric oncology nurse and I have learnt some of how it works including the emotional effect on the staff when they have to run the gauntlet of protesters shouting “murderer” when they leave after a 13 hour shift. My daughter commented that funnily enough they weren’t there when she arrived at 6:30am but were at 7:30pm when she left. I also know how nurses and doctors do cry,
often in the loo, and support each other. This was such a moving read on so many levels, also very clever with the two pathway options. I have enjoyed the crime thrillers but this is in a different league. I could feel how cathartic it was for the author. It was also very brave.

this book is not like the other books by the author but i was gripped from the start. One review I read give the outcome away so I will try to review without spoilers.

beautful characters, heartwrenching decisions, and hope .

Not an easy read/listen by any means due to the subject matter. I did find aspects of the book confusing (lots of jumping around) but once I was on track it was fine.
