Do you eat when you're not hungry? Or when you're angry and upset? Do you eat to control your feelings?

Allen Carr's Easyway is the most successful self-help stop-smoking method of all time. It has helped millions of smokers all over the world to quit and has since been used to treat other addictions such as drinking and gambling. Allen Carr's Easyway method works by unravelling the brainwashing that leads us to desire the very thing that is harming us, meaning that we are freed from the addiction rather than merely restricting our behaviour.

The Easyway method has now been applied to the problem of emotional eating. With Allen Carr's Easyway method, you can eat as much of your favourite foods as you want, whenever you want, as often as you want and be the exact weight you want to be, without dieting, special exercise, using willpower or feeling deprived.

Do you find that difficult to believe? Listen to this audiobook.

I think that it is too simplistic to just swap smoking for overeating which is what this book fundamentally does, although of course, there is a lot of crossover. I am an ex-smoker and can see how this approach would work. What I really object to is the narrators patronising tone and insistence on saying that people always overeat on junk, are addicted to junk, need to avoid junk, you get the picture. You can overeat without it being junk and I also think that to have a slice of cake to celebrate a birthday, or some crisps on the odd occasion is 'normal' eating. According to the book you shouldn't ever touch the foods described as junk, and that's why it's easier to apply this method to smoking, which you don't need to do to survive.

In my head, I swap the word 'junk' for overeating. It is the behaviour I want to change. I don't want to bin complete groups of food, which for me, leads ironically, to overeating.

I am not convinced that the narrator really understands the issue and I think that you need to to do a good job. That said, I may buy the hard copy because some of the content was interesting and useful.

Dreadful Narration

I don’t eat junk food and rarely have a takeaway. I don’t eat sugar. But I do use food as a crutch and overeat when stressed/for comfort etc. I really thought this would deal with that rather than the focus on purely junk food…

Too focused on junk food not emotional eating

Just Finished "Allen Carr's easyway to quit Emotional Eating" Doesn't say who wrote it but Allen Carr died 10 years ago so it wasn't him. It's really excellent referring the anti smoking system to eating for comfort and food addiction. Much better than the Easyweigh system which was the original book, they have cut out all the veganism bollocks. Deciding to never eat anything again other than for nutrition is a pretty big commitment and the brainwashing that junk food tastes good is a lot bigger than the brainwashing that smoking is a strong and valuable act. I am going to give it a go but I am nothing like as confident as I was with smoking, and that was still an extended process.

If it works it's amazing

I couldn't finish this title unfortunately as I cannot get past the narration. She sounds bored throughout and conceited at times.

The notion that "wouldn't I just prefer the apple over the cake if I really took the time to think?", would be perfect in an ideal world but doesn't sympathise with the disorder.

Narrator sounds like she'd rather be anywhere else
