In this episode, I encourage you for showing up to do the hard and holy work of self-brain surgery. I explain how we “get better at getting better” by practicing the thought biopsy. It works by creating a pause between automatic reactions and a more truthful, frontal-lobe response instead of fear-based reactivity. I emphasize that many automatic thoughts and feelings are disordered or false, and that self brain surgery, unlike value-neutral CBT, is a lifestyle and worldview grounded in neuroscience and scripture.
I teach broader categories of distorted thinking so you can identify not only that a thought is false but what kind of false it is, improving your SOAP notes and treatment plans. I review key categories: all-or-nothing thinking, overgeneralization, mental filtering, disqualifying the positive, catastrophizing, personalization, should statements, emotional reasoning, and labeling/mislabeling.
This one will refine and help you grow in your practice of self-brain surgery!
