In this episode of the Pet Groomers Community Podcast, Jo Wallace chats with Charlotte Townsend, owner of Townsend’s Tales Dog Grooming.
Charlotte shares her journey into grooming after lockdown, taking voluntary redundancy to retrain, and eventually buying an established salon while six weeks pregnant. Since then, she has navigated new motherhood, grief, staffing challenges, VAT registration, pricing changes, difficult customer reactions, and the reality of running a grooming business while trying to build a life that works for her family.
Jo and Charlotte talk honestly about the emotional side of being a business owner, from managing staff and making tough decisions to dealing with client expectations and learning not to feel guilty about charging properly.
They also discuss the importance of making your business work for you, whether that means not opening weekends, using staff or renters wisely, setting boundaries, or simply reminding yourself how far you’ve come.
A warm, funny and very real conversation for any groomer who has ever felt like they are juggling everything at once.
