Don’t trust ANYONE…

When a young woman makes a distressing middle-of-the-night call to 911, apparently running for her life in a quiet, exclusive beachside neighbourhood, miles from her home, everything suggests a domestic incident. Except no one has seen her since, and something doesn’t sit right with the officers at Hampstead County PD. With multiple suspects and witnesses throwing up startling inconsistencies, and interference from the top threatening the integrity of the investigation, lead detective Casey Wray is thrust into an increasingly puzzling case that looks like it’s going to have only one ending…And then the first body appears…

“Urgent, thrilling and richly imagined. Without doubt his best yet.” CHRIS WHITAKER, author of We Begin at the End

“Reynolds captures the claustrophobic feel of a small town … a tense slice of American noir.” VASEEM KHAN, author of Midnight at Malabar House

“If you were hooked on Mare of Easttown, this will be right up your street.” NINA POTTELL, Prima

“Rod Reynolds makes the most of this desolate, windswept location … a thrillingly complex narrative develops at speed … his superior cop saga is just the first instalment of a projected series.” THE TIMES

This is a book that slowly draws you into a fascinating plot. The characters are crafted carefully as the story develops. You know a book is well written when you start to ration the last few chapters after being unable to it down. Brilliant

A gripping plot

This audio book is exciting, full of intrigue and mystery. Twists and turns with an unexpected ending. Brilliantly narrated.

Very enjoyable

I started one audiobook, couldn't take to the narrator, I started a second, same again. So I looked at this book in my library and noticed it was the narrator that sounds like Sigourney Weaver (when she wants to) so I gave it a bash. Chuffed to bits that I did because it was a great story. Being a thriller aficionadi, I pretty much nailed the main bad guys about half way through (I got 1 wrong), but that didn't stop me enjoying it one bit. Realistic characters with flaws, baddies that aren't all pure evil, just humans that made mistakes alongside some pure evil ones. No one man/woman army stuff, just good police work. This was free but I'll be happily paying for the sequel.

What a joyous surprise

This is one of the best mysteries/thrillers I have listened to here. It is well-paced, plotted and narrated and is genuinely tense at some points. It kept me guessing until the last few minutes.

Gripping and tense
