Dee Brown's eloquent, meticulously documented account of the systematic destruction of the American Indian during the second half of the 19th century uses council records, autobiographies, and firsthand descriptions. Brown allows great chiefs and warriors of the Dakota, Ute, Sioux, Cheyenne, and other tribes to tell us in their own words of the battles, massacres, and broken treaties that finally left them demoralized and defeated. A unique and disturbing narrative told with force and clarity, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee changed forever our vision of how the West was really won - and lost.©1970 Dee Brown; Preface 2000 by Dee Brown (P)2009 Blackstone Audio, Inc. Great yarn with lots of nuggets of interesting information. Loved the narrator too. Whilst it was great entertainment I found it very educational too.

I learned so much

I struggled to finish this horror story even by narration. Had I been reading it, I don't think I would have reached the end. My heart was breaking and my soul was crying.
The narration was excellent. Well read, clear and concise.
Thank you for this look into your history and I recommend this book should be a compulsory school reader.

Heartbroken

This book should be compulsory reading for all school children throughout the western world. It is as significant an extermination of a people as that inflicted upon the Jews by Hitler, yet their voices remain unheard to this day.
Hard to listen to it all, but essential.

Stunningly sad

The brutal tale is one of America’s least discussed. In an era where our contemporaries discuss civil rights, America’s role in the world, and justice it important not to overlook the voices of the first people of the land. Tragedies mounted high make this story difficult, but all the more important.

Must read

A litany of betrayal and murder, a catalogue of atrocities. Difficult but essential reading.

Everyone should, at some point, read this book and take a moment to think how the modern world is built on the blood and bones of innocent people.

An important work
