Daggermouth is the viral sensation by successful indie author H. M. Wolfe. A gut-wrenching, all-consuming, dark, dystopian romance – perfect for fans of The Hunger Games, The Handmaid's Tale and Conform.
He Is Her Ruin. She Is His Rebellion.
‘Daggermouth had me in a chokehold! Shadera Kael is bound to be your next favorite morally grey heroine. Impossible stakes, sizzling writing and plot twists you’ll never see coming . . . this book has everything you want in a dark dystopian’ – Sable Sorensen, USA Today bestselling author of Dire Bound
Mercy no longer exists.
New Found Haven is carved into rings of privilege and poverty, ruled by the masked elite who will do whatever it takes to hold onto power.
Obedience is demanded.
Greyson Serel has spent his life caught between two worlds. Publicly, he’s the flawless heir to the presidency. Privately, he’s entangled in secrets that could topple the regime. But when he’s forced into a political marriage meant to bind him tighter to the government’s brutal laws, he finds himself shackled to a bride who is as lethal as she is unwilling.
Rebellion is crushed.
Shadera Kael is a mercenary raised to kill, not to wed. Yet when her bullet misses its mark, survival leaves her bound to the very man she was sent to eliminate. Trapped inside the corrupt Heart, the centre of the city, she becomes both prisoner and wife, her every step watched, her every move tested.
Nothing is what it seems.
Their union is no love story – It’s a battlefield. As secrets come to light and betrayals fester within the walls of power, Greyson and Shadera must decide between annihilating one another or burning the city to the ground together.
The Heart consumes.
In a world where passion incites rebellion and loyalty is paid for in blood, their forced bond may be the spark that ignites a revolution because . . .
Love outside of your ring is a death sentence.

When I first started reading, I kept catching myself thinking, "It's good, but it's not Dungeon Crawler Carl." That wasn't Daggermouth's fault, it was my book hangover.
But somewhere along the way, though, I stopped comparing and started becoming completely immersed in this world.
And wow what a world it is.
This is dystopian fantasy at its finest. A society where women are treated as property and stripped of their autonomy, yet every single female character demonstrates incredible courage, resilience, and strength. What I loved most was that it never felt forced. Their power wasn't there to make a statement, it was woven naturally into the story, making every act of defiance feel earned and all the more satisfying.
I also loved that this wasn't simply Greyson and Shadera's story. As the book unfolded, Callum and Lira became just as compelling, adding another emotional layer that I genuinely wasn't expecting. The wider cast gave the story real depth without ever becoming confusing, and every character felt like they had an important role to play.
Maximus Serel is one of those villains who gets under your skin. He gave me serious President Snow vibes but somehow even more unsettling. He's calculating, manipulative, and every scene he's in carries this quiet sense of dread. I hated him with a passion, which is exactly what makes him such a brilliantly written antagonist.
The writing is phenomenal. The twists kept coming, and I genuinely didn't predict most of them. Every time I thought I'd worked out where the story was heading, H.M.Wolfe quietly pulled the rug out from under me.
And that ending…
That short, sharp cliffhanger was absolutely brutal in the best possible way. I closed the book needing the sequel immediately, only to discover I have an entire year to wait. I am not okay.
The audiobook deserves five stars in its own right. The narration brought the characters and emotions to life beautifully and made it incredibly easy to disappear into the world. I did notice that a few sentences differed slightly between the audiobook and the ebook, which caught my attention, but it never took away from the experience. It's simply something worth bearing in mind if you switch between formats.
This was one of those books that slowly tightened its grip until suddenly I couldn't stop reading. Rich world-building, unforgettable characters, brilliant twists, and writing that keeps you turning pages long after you meant to stop.
Book two cannot come soon enough.
Daggermouth completely blindsided me.
