Graham Masterton has been thrilling and terrifying his readers since 1976, when his best-selling novel The Manitou was published. Since then he has published almost 40 books of horror, which his fans devour voraciously. In the supernatural thriller Descendant, a vampire legend of the Romanian strigoi turns out to be a reality. This suspenseful novel about undying predators is performed by Garrick Hagon, whose voice - though perhaps not his Transylvanian accent - many listeners might recognize from Star Wars: A New Hope and Batman. Hagon reads frequently for the BBC and even operates his own audiobook production company, so he knows his way around a strong dramatic recording.

If you’ve listened to books by Graham Masterton before, how does this one compare?
First book I have listened too by this author - not entirely sure I would do another. What didn’t you like about Garrick Hagon’s performance?
Arrggh. He was way to sing-songy for my liking. He had a strange accent and I didnt much care for his reading. If this book were a film would you go see it?
Possible - it wasn't a bad tale - in fact, I auite enjoyed it, but there are better books out there! If it was a movie, it would likely be in the B category!

Nevertheless I enjoyed it in a strange way.
The narrator's voice is pleasant, but those accents are hilarious, the pauses and emphasis totally comical.
The writing, especially the speech and the sex scenes; initially I couldn't decide how it could be serious, and if I was reading it I'm not sure if it would've been worse, or if the satire would still have been apparent! I can only assume that it was intended to be a satirical portrayal of mid 20th century English society, and the American's view of it through the genre of vampires, and as such I found it is a fun listen.
Definitely one to make your own mind up about.
a comedy/farce or a romance?
