Critic reviews

A compelling case for cultivating intense focus, and offers immediately actionable steps for infusing more of it into our lives
A wonderfully entangled, intertwined, and erudite series of strategies, philosophies, disciplines, and techniques to sharpen your focus and dive deep into your work
As a presence on the page, Newport is exceptional in the realm of self-help authors
Cal Newport speaks human truth to digital power. He calls out our enslavement to modern devices and calmly presents a better way to live and work (Julia Hobsbawm)
This book is an urgent call to action for anyone serious about being in command of their own life (Ryan Holiday)
Cal Newport has discovered a cure for the techno-exhaustion that plagues our always-on, digitally caffeinated culture (Joshua Fields Millburn)
Cal Newport's Digital Minimalism is the best book I've read in some time about our fraught relationship with technology. If you're looking for a blueprint to guide you as you liberate yourself from the shackles of email, social networks, smartphones, and screens, let this book be your guide (Adam Alter)
You're not the user, you're the product. Hang up, log off, and tune in to a different way to be in the world. Bravo, Cal, smart advice for good people (Seth Godin)
I hope that everyone who owns a mobile phone and has been wondering where their time goes gets a chance to absorb the ideas in this book. It's amazing how the same strategy can work for both financial success and mental well-being: Put more energy into what makes you happy, and ruthlessly strip away the things that don't (Pete Adeney)
I challenge you not to devour this wonderful book in one sitting. I certainly did and I started applying Cal's ideas to my own life immediately (Greg McKeown)

This is my first review, and it's not going to be a long one. Simply put, this book outlines exactly why you need to take stock of your phone use and how to do it. You'll learn to uncover the beauty of full focus and concentration. Something most people struggle with these days. We are living in a distracted world, where 100% uninderupted thought is almost something of the past. It is possible to gain control again and break the addiction!

Digital Minimalisim should be required reading for everyone with a smartphone in 2019.

Thanks Cal!

If like me you think you haven't got time to listen to this, start with chapter 3, start the 30 day digital declutter and then as if by magic I found I had way more time and listened to the whole book within a few days.
I'm in day 8 so far and the change even so far is incredible. I have so much more time and energy and I'm so much more present in my life and with my family. Highly recommend.

So glad I read this!

Finished it within a week and implemented a few practical tips with good effect- filling social media/ TV time with activities that bring me joy e.g. long walks- so good for figuring out problems I'm worried about; making a meal for family; hoping to try cross fit and potentially mouse book club with time. Feeling so much better, thanks Cal Newport for a balanced approach:)

Enjoyable listen, implemented a few things already

A fantastic and thought-provoking insight into the effects of digital burnout. The book offers profound insights into the effects of social media and its intrusion into modern life. By no means should the book be considered the work of a luddite, but rather as a means of using technology to live a greater and more fulfilling life.

Not a story as such

This book underscores the concept of less being more valuable to a quality life beyond just technology, and speaks to the many unnecessary distractions that clutter our daily lives.
