About this listen

Gideon

When my marriage fell apart, and I lost custody of my kids, my world shattered. My own fault, all of it, from the pills I was taking to how badly I handled the court case. I retreated to my grandparents’ old home, shut the door, and hunkered down with my Labrador Retriever, Lucky. Life is rough, and the constant construction noise from the mansion going up next door will truly be the end of me.

Archer

I've never met the man living next door until a storm forces me to take refuge with him. Gideon's skittish, generous, and oddly endearing. I’m dismayed the construction of my post-divorce home has been so upsetting for him, but there’s little I can do to ease that distress. What I can do, though, is use my skills as a talented divorce attorney to help with the most painful part of his life, the unfair custody arrangement that keeps him from being with his kids.

Gideon’s Gratitude is an small-town, opposites attract, hurt-comfort gay romance about a former longshoreman who believes he’s broken and the lawyer who believes there’s life after divorce.

Story: I liked the MCs the author created in this story - their backgrounds were intriguing and unique. The plot however lacked some more angst for me - for how complicated the story seemed, it all felt a wee bit too easy for my taste,
The writing was good and I liked the cast of characters, guess it's just my personal preference for more grit with characters like these.
Narration: Good performance. Easy to follow, with good distinction between the characters.

Good story with interesting characters

Gideon's disability lead to abusing pain meds, loss of his marriage and custody of his kids.
Hiding at his grandparents home with his dog Lucky is all he has left.
He's alone and lonely.
His new neighbor's construction is slowly driving him mad.
Archer is a workaholic who's lost too many relationships because of it.
When he meets Gideon during a horrible storm, he realizes the strain his construction has had on him and is devastated.
As they slowly get to know one another better, Archer makes it his mission to help Gideon regain custody of his kids.
These two had so much chemistry between them and it was lovely to see them help each other heal.
Michael Dean did an amazing job narrating and bringing these characters to life.

Beautiful

Gideon's Gratitude is the fifth book in Gabbi Grey's addicting Love in Mission City series. You can read these books in any order, but characters from previous episodes do pop up now and again. I've read them all but I think you'd be fine with reading the Love in Mission City stories as standalones.

If you have a chance, check out Archer's Awakening: A Love in Mission City Short Story which is a prequel and also available in audio. It is a nice intro to Archer's character. You'll want Gideon's Gratitude downloaded and ready to go if you do though!

This is a real hurt/comfort romance for both men, and it was a total pleasure to watch these two find their happily ever afters.

The audio version of Gideon's Gratitude is nicely performed by Michael Dean.

I'm so emotional now that I finished this book... uff, it was so, so good.

I first started it almost a couple of months ago, but I realized pretty quickly that I needed to be in the right mindset to truly appreciate it so I decided to wait, and I am glad I did that because this truly is a beautiful, beautiful story about second chances at love, at life.

Gideon was struggling with his life until he had love knock on his door in the middle of a natural disaster... you might say. I swear it's like Mother Nature personally played a hand in these two meeting each other.

A night in the company of beautiful, wounded, misterios Gideon was all Archer needed to realize that he didn't want to let this man go.

One night of sharing the same house turned into forever.

Their story is about grief, facing one's mistakes, owning them, learning to live with them. It's about accepting that you deserve a second chance it life despite all that ugliness. Learning that as long as we put in the work and we are willing to change, we do deserve to be happy.

Gideon needed Archer to understand that, but I think the beautiful lawyer needed this misterios man as well to learn this lesson.

They found each other when the time was right, and their story is so beautiful and emotional it was a pleasure to listen to it.

The narrator did an amazing job, so if you like audiobooks, I highly recommend listening to this story.

I'm sad that the story is over, but I'll go and listen to the rest of the series because I love the hope these stories bring.

The best part? The characters are older, and I love, love, LOVE reading about people finding the love of their lives later on in life. That is what life is about. Finding love and being happy.

5✨️, hands down.

absolutely loved it

Audiobook review
4,5 *

This series by Gabbi Grey hits the right spot for me with a guaranteed h(e)a after having overcome an ongoing or past event for one or both leading characters. It sounds all really heavy, the subj3cts can be that, but it never gets overwhelming or oppressive for me due to the writing style.

In this fifth book of the series Gideon has retreated in his own bubble/ home with his trusted dog Lucky after having lost what is most beloved by him, his children, in a nasty divorce. His physical an mental pain interfere on his rehabilitation.
My one gripe is Gideon his ex partner, Leo, his lack of understanding how Gideon got addicted to opoids. Not at the find out stage, but through the divorce and getting 'clean' phase of Gideon.

Archer is a self confessed work-a-holic as a divorce attorney and the soon to be neighbour of Gideon. He has divorced his wife, since it was more a marriage of convenience and she fell in love with a trainer.
Archer is great in taking care of anf for others, but has difficulty doing the same for himself health wise.

These seemingly opposite men are in this slow burn, small town romance, just what the other needs.Via a friendship, somewhat reluctant at first to a natural relationship. And they each turn out what the other needs.

They soften the edges on how they see the world. By having a first hesitant look through the others view of the other and the world.
Especially how Archer reasses how he looks at his large nosy family with big hearts.

Narration by Michael Dean
What can I say that I have not said before? His work is a favorite of mine. Never goes, overboard and always delivers quality narration with the book not being done justice. Whenever he narrates a book I recognize the voice of the author a d the characters they created a s well.

I was kindly gifted an audiocode via the author. However all opinions about this books are my own.
