In celebration of it's 20th anniversary, Penguin presents the unabridged, downloadable, audiobook edition of High Fidelity, by Nick Hornby, read by Russell Tovey.

Nick Hornby's first novel, an international bestseller and instantly recognized by critics and readers alike as a classic, helps to explain men to women, and men to men. Rob is good on music: he owns a small record shop and has strong views on what's decent and what isn't. But he's much less good on relationships. In fact, he's not at all sure that he wants to commit himself to anyone. So it's hardly surprising that his girlfriend decides that enough is enough.

Critic reviews

Leaves you believing not only in the redemptive power of music but above all the redemptive power of love
A triumphant first novel. True to life and moving
Extremely cleverly observed
An instant classic
Fast, fun, and remarkably deft: a sharp-edged portrait that manages at once to be vicious, generous, and utterly good-natured

The book itself is a time (less) classic but narration a bit flat and lifeless

Great Story full of nostalgia

I love the book and the film, surprisingly one being American and one British is great because they're similar but different so neither is better

Forget all the other reviews on here the narration is fine. Not quite as good as Julian Rhind-Tut who did a couple of Hornby books but it’s good enough.

One of my favourites

Although I'm fairly old, so old that I remember 'Music shops' and"ordering 'Vinyl' there were many, many references to music titles which meant very little to me. In my humble opinion, there was much too much of this, deflecting from the story.

Music Titles, music titles, music titles .....

I almost didn’t buy this because of the reviews on Russell Tovey’s narration but I’m glad I did. His manner of speaking is the same way he speaks when he’s acting, it’s just the way he speaks if you’ve ever seen him in anything. I thought his voice for Rob was perfect. I wasn’t so keen on his voices for the other characters, although Laura was good, but fortunately the main character Rob does by far the most talking and I thought RT was great at that.

Don’t be put off by reviews about Russell Tovey’s narration!
