The Sun is about to go Nova. Earth and Moon have ceased their axial rotation and present one face continuously to the sun. The bright side of Earth is covered with carnivorous forest. This is the age of vegetables. Gren and his lady - not to mention the tummybelly men - journey to the even more terrifying dark side.

One of Aldiss' most famous and long-enduring novels, fast moving, packed with brilliant imagery.

crazy science fiction obviously written years ago, and yet an easy listen to pass many hours. if you like stories about natives and simpletons in a big dangerous world then you'll enjoy this. but be warned, it's mostly fantasy rather than hard science fiction.

it's an easy listen

I remember reading this as a paperback book, costing 2 and 6 in old money. The copy was borrowed from friends Dad, when I was a youngster.
Although it was published 2 years before I was born it is still as enjoyable as I remember.
Thrilled to find it on Audible!

A good listen...

interesting ideas and world building, maybe not the best book for me though as a non native language speaker I couldnt fully appreciate the writing style of this book and have heard that it is a big part of the enjoyment of it

not bad,

Performance was mostly okay but some characterisations where overcooked to the point of being annoying.

Very interesting and bizarre world. Unlike many novels.

Brian Aldiss didn't just look to the future for this story, he jumped billions of years ahead to set it.

An incredible imagination, brought to life in an audiobook beyond compare.

This is a must for any science fiction fan. As an SF Audible author myself, I know how hard it can be to bring strange worlds to life. Aldiss does it in spades.
