About this listen

Stop not doing what you know you should do!

You might think laziness, lack of willpower, and/or low motivation are to blame for the fact that you aren't achieving your goals. But fascinating research in the field of psychoneuroimmunology has revealed another, far more likely possibility. One with the potential to transform your life in a dramatic way.

The typical excuses for not doing what you know you should - I'm too stressed out... I don't have the time... I don't have the energy, etc. - are, in fact, manifestations of a complex, interconnected web of psychological, chemical, and neurological factors.

When activated, these factors can effectively paralyze you - making it virtually impossible for you to take the actions needed to create change in your life.

In other words, even if you're highly motivated...if you've got these internal circumstances operating, you aren't going to be able to do it.

But while the biochemistry may be complex, the solutions are actually quite simple.

Dr. Nick Hall reveals these solutions - and the fascinating science behind them - in I Know What to Do, So Why Don't I Do It? You'll learn:

  • An extraordinarily powerful stress-fighting tool that very few people take advantage of.
  • An easy way to instantly regain control and stay focused in an emotional emergency.
  • Six things to do when you think you've taken on more than you can accomplish in the time you have.
  • The mistake almost everyone makes when they organize their to-do list.
  • A simple exercise that can instantly tell you which side of your brain is dominant at any given time.
  • The first-thing-in-the-morning action that will literally reset your internal clock and have a profoundly positive impact on your energy level for the rest of the day (and it is SO easy to do!).

Would you listen to I Know What to Do, So Why Don't I Do It? again? Why?

Yes, in fact I am only a third the way through but am so inspired I wanted to review it now as I feel this is the best spent credit I have ever used. I read the reviews before I bought it, and so knew I was taking a gamble, but my gut told me this is what i was looking for.

I can only say that, if you have had one or more major setback in life, you know you can be more than you are, you have listened to and read endless motivation, success and other personal development books but you still aren't doing what you want to do and know you can, then definitely take a chance on this.

Some reviewed it as too scientific, I can only say it is scientific enough to know why these methods and understanding work but no more.

Some said it was repetitive, well hearing the same thing over and over reinforces its meaning and you will remember more as a result.

What was one of the most memorable moments of I Know What to Do, So Why Don't I Do It??

Understanding that my apparent current failure and endless procrastination is not only understandable and I am not alone BUT there are strategies to change it other than my current method of forcing motivation by setting goals and making myself feel guilty.

Totally liberating!

What does Nick Hall bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Some said it was 'just as series of lectures pieced together' - well, yes, and...your point is? Listening to Nick Hall presenting live with meaning to a live audience brings the whole thing to life, rather than a wooden narrator just reading words.

I've never heard him before, but Nick Hall is funny, dry, fascinating and clearly very clever and he puts his information across well in a very engaging form.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES!!! Can't put it down, carrying my tablet with me all day so I can keep listening

10 hours is a long audiobook and if I could I'd take a day off and just listen!

Any additional comments?

Please ignore the other reviews saying this is not what the title says. It is exactly what the title says. I can only think that the people who wrote negative reviews were looking for something else, a quick fix and a motivational pep talk maybe.
This book will give you the tools and understanding you need to change your own way of thinking, patterns and approach to success.

Absolutely brilliant and just what I needed

I really enjoyed this book but found it incredibly annoying at the end of chapters to have to listen to it over music - very difficult for us hard of hearing and also very unnecessary and distracting.
I also noticed quite a bit of repetition, no doubt because the book is drawn from various presentations that Nick Hall has done.
But none of that detracted from what is a great book with a lot of very thought-provoking concepts. I shall definitely listen again.

Great book but ditch the music!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If the friend is fed up not 'getting on getting on'...absolutely. Very inspritional and funny - good brain food...but will only work...if you work it.

it was narrated very well with lost of information based in science. However, I would have like to have heard more ways to implement change

Great book

I found this very informative of how the brain perceives situations, thoughts, beliefs etc. based on previous experiences, yet not necessarily our own experiences. I will be listening to more of his books

Enjoyable
