This heart warming and swoon worthy second chance romance about childhood friends reconnecting as adults is the highly anticipated debut novel from BookTok icon Haley Pham.

Blair and Declan were inseparable growing up – best friends who knew each other better than anyone else. But when an impulsive kiss took them from friends to something more, everything changed. Just as quickly as their romance started, one moment shattered it all, leaving them with nothing but heartbreak and silence.

Four years later, Blair is back in their coastal hometown of Seabrook to support her mom and care for her great-aunt Lottie. To make ends meet, Blair applies to work at a coffee shop – only to discover it’s managed by none other than Declan. The boy she loved. The boy she lost. The boy who still makes her heart race.

As Blair’s path keeps crossing with Declan’s, old wounds resurface, secrets are revealed and sparks reignite. But could their future ever be free of their past?

Told in dual timelines that unravel the magic and pain of first love, Just Friends is a moving, romantic story about second chances, the weight of dreams and finding your way back to the people who feel like home.

This was another book I chose for a Goodreads bookmark recommendation, and yet again, I’m so glad I did.
This was genuinely such a sweet and lovely read. My heart was swelling the entire way through, and I completely fell for this story.
I love a second chance romance, especially when there’s history, longing and all those lingering feelings involved, and this ticked every box for me. It was soft, emotional and full of the kind of romance that just makes you want to curl up and stay in its world a little longer.
I also loved the way grief was woven into the story. It never felt forced or like it was only there to make the book sad. It was handled so naturally and portrayed so beautifully, adding another layer of emotion without taking away from the sweetness of the romance.
A gorgeous, heartwarming read that left me feeling very full-hearted by the end.

A lovely story of love and grief

I loved this book! No spice, a lot of real feelings, the characters weren’t stupid (as they sometimes are in other books). I loved how unique they were (for example Blair’s love for big words - she reminded me of Ross from the friends series hehe).. I had a lot of fun listening to this book ☺️ Can’t wait for more books by this author! ☺️

Just Friends? Just amazing!

This book was lovely to ‘indulge’ in- my big word I hope people understand the meaning of, and don’t think I’m holding a thesaurus just because I type differently than I speak usually. Jokes aside, I really loved this, maybe my opinion is skewed ‘cause I don’t really read romance outside of the screen.

I love that the author is married, and I can almost draw parallels between the parts of her personal story she has shared with her audience over her time on the tubes, to the story she told in this book.

Though I’m aggressively aware this story is fiction, it feels based on-and in- a feasible and tangible reality. Like I could be Declan if I just tried harder, and perhaps Blare really just needs a bit of patience gifted to her, as part of that thing we so often claim to offer each other, called love.

I love that the book opened with “for Ryan” cause it rings so true with the ending, and how The Author’s story went. Truly an inspired work of art, which has fuelled me to go back to writing my own little project piece.

As a hardly-ever-reader outside of a series I got into one time, this is one of the few times a book gained and retained my interest. If you like romance, then you’ll like this book without getting stuck up on technicalities that have nothing to do with a heartfelt appreciation for story. That is in no way to say there are any grounds for honest discord in that sense, and negative reviews I’ve heard tend to linger on subjective points like a dislike of a character’s name, and attitude… as though all characters in existence should simply follow what we have in our heads. Where then would the need be to invest in a story WE didn’t write.

Anyway, without rambling on forever-which I could honestly- this was legitimately a good book, and it was indeed a SECOND CHANCE romance, eat your heart out technicality police y’all put your heads so deep up into instruction manuals on “how to do”, you got stuck there and never actually “did” then got bitter your home girl pops off, talking bout ‘she new to this’, just ‘cause she don’t say the quiet part out loud like these under-civilised folk.

Nah but for real, have your own opinions gang, peep the sample, if you feelin’ it, that’s comp. If you not, cos ur taste buds is cooked, ay… that’s rough bud.

Ay who am I feelin’ like, this book got my mood all the way back up. Don’t sleep on me, we bout to do this for real! Shout out to you, Miss Trahan-Pham. God bless!

Ignore the haters, they’re either jelly, or jaded.
