One of the best short stories I’ve read in recent years and I’m really looking forward to the next book

A nice stand alone story. Possibly a bit too predictable but lovely prose and and wonderful performance.

I like to think of this story as Starship Troopers on Red Bull. It's a great addition to the 'Gods Of Mercy' storyverse and follows a bunch of yahoos on their first person shooter style journey to help save the human race. There is much introspection and we learn about who they were and who they become through the prsim of war. Be prepared for a dark twist.

Great work from Jefferson Mays on the narration.

First person shooter with a twist

Was pleasantly surprised to see this in the list. The Memory's Legion set of books added some important context and story to The Expanse. This and I hope more to follow does the same for the Captive's War.

The linear story jumps around a lot, but that's intentional I think. Humanity has spread far and wide among the stars and is being constantly attacked by the enemy, which from humanities perspective are the Caryx et al. Solar systems are decimated and news of their demise can take years to filter through. The use of time dilation is well done to show the sheer scope of space and the effects of relativity.

The narrator was good. Not a lot of range between characters but enough to notice and overall an easy voice to follow.

Worth the listen, even if it could have been an hour longer.
