MEET ABBY FINCH. SHE'S THE BUSY MUM OF THREE, AN EXPERT GARDENER AND THE STAR OF YOUR NEW FAVOURITE COZY MURDER MYSTERY.
In the peaceful Cotswolds village of Maybridge, you wouldn't expect to find a dead body in the rose garden. And certainly not two.
Abby is horrified to discover the bones of a baby buried under a rose bush. It's in the garden of her soon-to-be ex-husband Howard's family home.
She immediately calls the police. But she can't get hold of Howard. He's off on a jolly with the woman he's got pregnant.
And then, just two days later, Abby finds Howard himself.
Lying dead in the very same rose garden.
Throat slashed with her own garden spade.
Now Abby is the prime suspect . . .
Fans of Faith Martin, Jane Adams, Frances Evesham, M.C. Beaton, Clare Chase or Jeanne M. Dams will love this addictive cozy mystery!

Really enjoyed this book

But, it’s a rare thing: it is narrated by a person with a totally neutral voice. At first it sounded flat but I quite like it now. I think the narrator probably has a natural East Midlands accent that’s barely discernible.
The story is quite clever and there’s no messing about, we get 2 bodies (1 murder) in the first few chapters. I guessed the murderer quite soon after the murder.
There’s an historical thread throughout too which is quite well done.
My main problem is the unbelievable attraction that Howard Jnr had for an apparently limitless number of women. He’s portrayed as a physical brute, incapable of fidelity; cunning, mean, sly, selfish. So his ex wife’s continuing ‘love’ and her incredibly passive personality, plus the company of gorgeous women who also fell for him, are just jarring. She also knowingly stayed with him throughout an endless series of affairs. It’s not believable or satisfying for the reader.
I think she’s going to need to stop moping about and become way more assertive, for the series to grow a pair of legs and run. If I do buy the second book, I’ll give it 4 chapters and if it’s not matured, I’ll send it back.
2 for 1 purchase - not bad
