From 1938 to 1969 the fictional crime novelist and detective Paul Temple, together with his Fleet Street journalist wife Steve, solved case after case in one of BBC radio's most popular series. They inhabited a sophisticated world of chilled cocktails and fast cars, where the women were chic and the men wore cravats - a world where Sir Graham Forbes, of Scotland Yard, usually needed Paul's help with his latest tricky case. The murder of well-known American Myron Harwood, found dead in a small country lane, heralds the start of a series of celebrity murders. Each time, the body is found with a small, square piece of white cardboard bearing the inscription 'The Marquis'. When the eighth victim, a girl, is picked out of the river with the same card attached to her dress, a note from Paul Temple is delivered to Sir Graham Forbes. The message reads: 'Is it true what they say about Rita?' Rita Cartwright was a private detective investigating the Marquis murders - and now she too has ended up dead. A bit hard to hear with all the crackling going on .as per usual good performance. And had me gripped to the end.

Scratchy but added to the authenticity of the time. Enough of a story but not as good a background as later ones. Nonetheless evocative and listenable

I really enjoy Paul Temple. Although the plots are silly and quite repetitive, there is a marvellous period atmosphere to the Peter Coke/Marjorie Westbury adventures. 'Intervenes' has different actors and is interesting as a curiosity, but the sound quality is a bit variable and the production values are generally a little crude. Do not start with it - choose the Geneva Mystery, the Spencer Affair or the Conrad Case. When you have exhausted the rest, this one will do.

Love the Paul Temple stories.but due to the poor sound quality, either too loud or too quiet, meant I couldn't follow the plot.

There is something comforting and at the same time exciting when you hear the opening theme tune to another Paul Temple thriller. Such a pity there were not more. For those of you who are fans this is another opportunity to enjoy an old favourite, for those of you who have not listened to Paul Temple before, there is a real treat in store for you. Both lead characters are excellent and Peter Coke is without doubt the REAL Paul Temple. As for the story line its just what is to be expected well put together and great fun. ENJOY.
