An Enemies-to-Lovers, Accidental Pregnancy, Hockey Romance
Lane “Gavin” Knight is the hottest new defenseman for the LA Champions hockey team.
He’s my cousin Maverick’s best friend, and by trick of fate, my new roommate.
But just because he caught me when I fell off the “Welcome Back” parade float in my International Princess crown doesn’t mean he’s a hero.
I know him better than that.
Hayden “Haddy” Bradford is the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.
She’s a princess, a brilliant scientist… And she hates me.
Until a purple-drink-fueled Halloween hook-up changes both of our lives.
It’s something I’ve wanted a long time, but I never dreamed I’d have it with her.
Still, I’m the master of high-risk, high-reward plays, and I’ll do what it takes to show her I’m not the man she thinks I am.
I’m there for her every step of the way, supporting, holding her hand, doing my best to show her my true self.
I told her I’d catch her when she falls, but no one is catching me—and I’m falling fast.
I’m headed straight into the offensive zone. Everything I want is at stake, but I’m committed to this puck battle, and I intend to win.
(Pinch is a hockey romance with enemies to lovers, roommates to lovers, a cocky bad-boy Hero, a sassy STEM/pageant-princess FMC, an accidental pregnancy, foster dogs, family, and loads of spicy fun. No cheating, no cliffhanger, and no third-act breakup.)

Haddy is a combination of beautiful and smart when she cares for people she cares deeply even if they don’t always deserve it. She has an opinion of Gavin and doesn’t believe she can trust him however once she gives into the physical connection between them she begins to realize that maybe she doesn’t know Gavin at all.
The chemistry between Gavin and Haddy was intense but I really enjoyed seeing Gavin persevere and break through the walls that Haddy had built around herself when it came to him. The characters and their relationship was heartwarming and there is a great cast of secondary characters to make the story even better. Ryan Lee Dunlap brought out the sweet and swoony side of Gavin while Willa James brought all the feels when it came to Haddy.

I loved Haddy’s character. She’s a beauty pageant queen but also a scientist – independent, smart, driven, compassionate, and fiercely loyal, sometimes to her own detriment. Behind that tough exterior, though, she’s nursing old wounds and insecurities, which naturally causes some friction in her relationship with Gavin. Gavin is such a golden retriever. He’s sweet and caring, completely unthreatened by Haddy’s intelligence and drive, and he proudly celebrates her achievements. He’s supportive and patient, yet quietly persistent. I loved how their relationship progressed – from that initial awkward tension to friendship, and eventually deeper feelings of love, their connection and chemistry felt completely genuine.
I loved the large, close-family element of the story. The Bradford clan are a lively bunch who love to poke fun at each other, but they’re also supportive and welcoming, adding a lot of humour to the story. I adore fictional pets and the dogs here added both warmth and humour – from mischievous Spanky, who caused all kinds of trouble, to the adorable little Patsy, who gave Haddy comfort when she needed it. I also loved that everyone, including Gavin, refused to call her Patsy. You’ll have to read the book to find out what they did call her. It’s so amusing. While the story is mostly humorous and cozy, a few moments of tension and conflict add depth to the characters and the story.
Ryan Lee Dunlap and Willa James gave a fantastic performance, bringing out all the humour and warmth of the story. Their distinct character voices and emotional delivery made the audiobook immersive and engaging from start to finish. One scene that illustrates how well the narrators brought out the characters’ emotions is when Gavin and Maverick come home after a string of games and the house is quiet. Gavin is disappointed that Haddy didn’t wait up for him and all of a sudden, he’s not interested in the dinner Mav is ordering (he’s a hockey player. He doesn’t say no to food 😅) and says he’s going to bed. I could literally see his shoulders slump and his pouting face. It was so adorable.
Overall, this was a thoroughly enjoyable listen, perfect for anyone looking for a cozy, character-driven romance with a golden retriever MMC, an independent, compassionate FMC in STEM, relatable, loveable side characters, lots of humour and warmth, and a bit of tension.
