Three-year-old Lexie, five-year-old Amelie and thirteen-year-old Leo come to Maggie after Leo confesses to a teacher that his mother's addiction problems and her latest violent relationship has left him as the sole carer to his younger sisters.

I am a foster carer and feel that this book was very accurately written, it was a sad story but was easy to follow and the characters fitted well. I really enjoyed this audiobook

enjoyed this book but wow the emotions I cried. such a gripping story. finished it in one day couldn't put it down.

Wow loved and hated this book in one, this foster carer is amazing, how she coped with this I could never imagine. These children should’ve been kept together, I do hope the brother is doing well now, shame the adopting family didn’t have a conscience, that is the part I find hard, social services remove children on the basis of “future harm” yet they rip families apart and allow people to cherry pick.

A brilliant story yet heartbreaking at the same time. It's so sad to think these this is what happens in the system and I take my hat off to all foster carers out there.

Penelope really adds feeling to her narration.
