Very well narrated and fleshed out characters. Found myself losing sleep while trying to listen to "just one more chapter." Touches on some topical subjects very smoothly, highly recommend

There is but only 1 one star review and it placed by " dee " . Just to be clear they completely lacked both the intellectual capacity and understanding to fully enjoy this book and should not be taken seriously

Also aside from that the book itself is akin to a moralistic journey for the reader, which turns throughout the story to action to a bit of romance to adventure and intrigue and truly leaves you wondering and wanting more , it is well deserving of its star rating and I hope you'll enjoy it

What else can I say? A brilliant beginning to a new trilogy!
The story is set in a future world that has seen the end of "natural death" as well as poverty, pain, disease and suffering - but how to manage population?
It introduces the ethical quandary of who should choose who will die, and how it should be carried out. An almost holy order is created - The Scythedom - and we see how humanity has opted to solve this issue.
It is a fascinating story; the central characters are engaging and interesting, the plot moves along at a good pace and isn't easy to predict or foresee. There are some uncomfortably violent scenes, well written and detailed, which may upset some young readers; so please be mindful of that if you're listening with a sensitive teen.
I really enjoyed this performance too, Greg Tremblay has a rich clear voice and portrays his characters so well!
Looking forward to the next one for sure!

This is one of the most gripping things I have read/listened to for a long time. Someone in one of the reviews I read accused the book of being a glorification of death, but to me, it is precisely the opposite. The “gleaning” performed by the “good” scythes is done with humanity and compassion, and we are left in no doubt at all that this is the correct way. The “good” scythes represent all that is admirable in human nature; all, in short, that makes us human - and this is surely an affirmation of life, not death. It was also superbly read - I cannot wait to listen to the next instalment.
