THE BRAND NEW NOVEL IN THE NUMBER ONE BESTSELLING RIVERS OF LONDON SERIES

'This isn't London. The rules are different up here, and so are the allegiances.'

Detective Sergeant Peter Grant takes a much-needed holiday up in Scotland. And he'll need one when this is over...

If more's the merrier, then it's ecstatic as his partner Beverley, their young twins, his mum, dad, his dad's band and their dodgy manager all tag along. Even his boss, DCI Thomas Nightingale, takes in the coastal airs as he trains Peter's cousin Abigail in the arcane arts.

And they'll need them too, because Scotland's Granite City has more than its fair share of history and mystery, myth ... and murder.

When a body is found in a bus stop, fresh from the sea, the case smells fishy from the off.

Something may be stirring beyond the bay - but there's something far stranger in the sky...

I was so looking forward to the release of this book as it is my favourite series. Disappointed in this book though, far too much Abigail who is truly annoying, and not enough Nightingale. Plot was OK and as always the narration was fantastic. Hopefully the next book will see a return to London and is Abigail free.

Like many fans of Peter Grant and associates at the Folly, it’s been an eager wait for this release. However, to say I’m disappointed is an understatement, weak story, weak characters with little reflection on previous releases that really held their own through the story. I was left with the belief it was written for the YA market in particular young females with such a big focus on the young female character.

I Live in this area so funny to hear it in this story, female narrator not so food at the accents but it’s a tall order I guess. I would have liked more of Nightingale and Peter. After such a long wait it would have been great if it had been longer. Felt a bit weak.

Not my favourite

Abigail’s story and narrator are both dull and annoying at the same time.

Peter Grants narrator is brilliant as all ways, but it’s like someone else has written his part and in fact the whole book - it’s dull and I found myself waiting for it to pick up

I do hope the next book is better as I love this series and have listened to them so many times

Very disappointing

I want to start with the fact I adore the Rivers of London books and have relistened and read them several times over with great joy. Unfortunately this is just rather uninspired. Many reviewers have said it already however the Abigail vs Peter set up isn’t helpful. Whilst Kobna is the better narrator, Shvorne is doubly hamstrung as the storyline for Abigail is both teenage and dull so it’s very uneven. The tale is also clearly a short story that’s been stretched to adult size and is too thin as a result, many new characters lacking depth. I couldn’t finish What Abigail Did Last Summer, could have lived without the Abigail sections in this novel and would likely not buy a book where her character took a major role again. I hate that I disliked this, I wanted to love it. Sigh.

Just not very good, sadly.
