About this listen
A Steamy Small-Town Romance with a Grumpy Cowboy, Found Family, and Heartbreak
"She’s a firestorm in scrubs, and I’m about to get burned."
Ozzy
Taking a job as a private nurse on a family ranch in Virginia was supposed to be a temporary fix—a way to disappear, lay low, and keep my past where it belongs. My patient? A grumpy old man with one foot in the grave and a foul mouth to match my own. Easy enough. His family? A whole different story. Jackson Rowe is a problem I don’t need. A rugged cowboy with a sharp stare, a sharper tongue, and a body carved by hard work and bad decisions. He’s watching me too closely, peeling back my layers with nothing but silence and those storm-cloud eyes. He wants to know my secrets. But trust isn’t something I give, and getting close to me comes with consequences.
Jackson
My father is dying, and my family is barely holding it together. The last thing we need is a sarcastic, guarded-as-hell nurse stirring up trouble. But Ozzy Davenport isn’t just trouble—she’s a goddamn hurricane in eight inch heels. She pushes, I push back, and somehow, that friction turns into something neither of us saw coming. She acts like she’s untouchable, like she’s already halfway out the door. But I see her. I see the fight in her, the fire. And I know one thing for sure—whatever she’s running from is catching up. And this time, I won’t let her run alone.

DJ Krimmer writes with a mix of heartbreak humour and love that always feels honest. Stray is emotional and heavy in all the right places yet still filled with warmth and banter. Experiencing that through audio only made the impact stronger. This was a story that settled into my chest and stayed there.
Ozzy was an incredible main character. She carries an extraordinary amount of trauma yet she is a survivor with so much strength and vulnerability woven through her voice. Jackson was the perfect counterbalance to her and I loved watching him figure out how to love her with patience and care. Their connection felt real and earned and the audio performances made every moment between them even more affecting.
The Rowe family added so much heart and charm. I connected to all the side characters but the relationship between Morris and Ozzy stood out for me. It added a quiet tenderness that made the emotional beats even more meaningful.
Sean Masters and Maxine Mitchell were outstanding in this production. Their performances carried the humour the grief and the healing with such authenticity that I found myself laughing out loud one minute and crying the next. Their delivery elevated the entire experience and made the story feel even more immersive.
As an ALC this was exceptional. The production quality the performances and the emotional depth made this an unforgettable listen. I absolutely loved it.

I was absolutely not expecting that opening, our female lead ozzy in the most horrible of circumstance, that leads you into the trauma she suffered and gives you the details of her background. 5 years on ending up at the ranch as to be a palitive care nurse for Jackson father.
the relationship she builds with Morris, is absolutely heart warming the banter hilarious. Jackson our MMC was swoon worthy, always asking for permission, the little things he did like the recording to ground her through smexy time, getting her a necklace but suggesting she wore it as a bracelet, the man is on point book husband material.
The performances from Maxine Mitchel and Sean Masters absolutely astounding, I listened to the scene driving home from work with Jackson and Morris in the barn and omg the tears.
this is a must read /listen to book, let's be fair all of DJ Krimmer are but this one needs to be at the top.
Ugly happy tears
