I have stuck with the trilogy to the end and, apart from a few mistakes, largely enjoyed the first two. This one however was a very convoluted story, aspects of which I found unbelievable. The bottom line for me in the whole trilogy is that there are many people in the world with arguably better claims to the English throne from Plantagenet ancestry than the current incumbent so why would the government be interested in the people in this story? It doesn’t make sense.

I found this book a bit harder going to read than the other two. It felt more of a history lesson and was hard to follow who was who and doing what to whom. It was still very enjoyable and I felt I learned a lot but I would say I enjoyed the first two more.

Generally love this series although the mentions of storm coloured eyes were a bit too frequent. However I’ll blame that on editing. Great tale and enough history to make it intriguing. Narrator not as strong as in the other two, found Piper gets more whiny as the books progress but do appreciate the vocal range for the many diverse characters in both timeframes.
