About this listen

Sometimes life doesn’t go exactly to plan...

London accountant Sophie unexpectedly becomes the stand-in mum for her estranged sister’s eight-month-old baby, Alana. She didn’t even know she had a niece! She’s wildly out of her depth.

Then her life is turned upside down all over again by the appearance of a Thor lookalike on her doorstep. Apparently, six-foot surfer Samson is Alana’s father. And he also just discovered the existence of this adorable baby.

Sophie is not prepared to hand over her niece to an equally clueless stranger, so they come up with a plan: Sophie and Alana will move into Samson’s spare bedroom in Brighton until they work out what to do.

As they settle into changing nappies and nighttime feeds, Sophie finds it hard to ignore the way her heart somersaults whenever Samson looks at her. But he already has a girlfriend, who’s made it very clear that Sophie and Alana are in the way.

The more Samson and Sophie bond with little Alana, they can’t ignore the obvious attraction between them. But can they put their feelings aside and stick to the plan?

This heartwarming summer romance is perfect for fans of Phoebe MacLeod, Laura Starkey, Beth Moran, Freya Kennedy, Kathryn Freeman and Maxine Morrey.

It is a very bland, 'nice' story. There's no twists or turns. It's just very mediocre.

Great narration and enjoyed the storyline. Disagree with some of the reviews saying it’s bland…it’s a clean, feel good romance! Very sweet

Really enjoyable read

Sweet story

I really enjoyed this short story. The premise follows Sophie, a London accountant, who suddenly becomes the guardian of her niece, Alana, following a family tragedy. She is joined in this unexpected journey by Samson, a "Thor-like" surfer who has only just discovered he is Alana's father.

I’ll admit I was a bit skeptical when I first read the summary, as I worried the subject matter might feel too heavy or difficult to handle. However, the story was approached with such subtlety and grace. I particularly liked the modern family setting and the "living together" dynamic; watching two adults navigate the baby routine and the chaos of new parenthood was both realistic and heartwarming.

It features a lovely slow and sweet romance that develops naturally. While the plot could have been developed a bit more, for a short story, it was an incredibly pleasant listen. The narration by Anna Burnett was a highlight—she truly brought the characters to life and allowed them to reach their full potential.

SPOILER
a lovely story but unfortunately quite disappointing, overall boring and just the plot and characters were predictable yet also completely unhealthy when you really think about it.
It you don't mind reading about two people making poor choices amidst grief then it will be great for you. Getting engaged to your nieces father on her first birthday, six months after meeting her and him and at the same time six months after your sister died is just ridiculous. Maybe I'm just taking it too seriously 🤷🏼‍♀️

Disappointing
