What if the people we lose never truly leave us?

Fourteen-year-old Tilly is struggling to survive the sudden death of her beloved father. Trapped indoors during the Covid lockdown with her distant stepmother and a man whose presence unsettles her, grief begins to blur the boundaries between reality, memory and imagination.

Then the pigeon appears.

At first, Tilly thinks it is simply a strange comfort in a world falling apart. But when the bird seems to lead her towards impossible encounters — including a mysterious young man named Gabriel who may be a ghost — she begins to wonder if something far greater is trying to reach her.

As Tilly is drawn into a hidden realm beyond death, she discovers stories that stretch across centuries: from plague-ravaged London and the Great Fire to distant worlds beyond human understanding. But the deeper she journeys, the more she must confront the hardest question of all:

How do you keep living after losing the person who mattered most?

The Cosmic Caretaker is a moving and imaginative novel about grief, neurodivergence, love, and the fragile thread connecting the living and the dead.

Blending metaphysical fiction, historical mystery and spiritual adventure, it is perfect for readers who loved The Midnight Library, The Lovely Bones, and The Time Traveller's Wife.

Some stories end with death.

Others begin there.

I enjoyed the book. It was unlike anything I've ever read before and I'm well read. The blend of centuries/ technologies/ invested parties was really cleverly done and gripping at times.
It's prompted me to do some research, after becoming fascinated with certain elements. I think I'll probably read it again to really absorb it. But I really enjoyed it and was sad when I reached the end.

Thought provoking and insightful
