About this listen

Two sisters. One enchanted forest. And a reckless choice that could destroy kingdoms …

Taken away from her ordinary life, Rose Valrois finds herself in a world full of secrets and forbidden magic. There she meets her new stepsister, the enigmatic Princess Neeve, who will either become her best friend … or her worst enemy.

In the shadows of the magical Darkwood, Rose discovers danger and adventure in her quest for answers about the mysteries surrounding her. When she’s rescued by Thorne, the Dark Elf guardian of the forest, he binds her to the Darkwood and forbids her to speak of its secrets.

But secrets have a way of getting loose, especially when there’s hidden magic involved, and Rose falls deeper into the thorny tangles of her own past. Her sister, Neeve, is concealing dangerous powers of her own, and the two of them are soon entangled in a destiny that will bring them face-to-face on opposite sides of a deadly magical war.

Ultimately, Rose must risk her freedom, her world, and even her truest love to save her sister. Can she bear to make that sacrifice? Does she even have the choice?

A great retelling and spin on Grimm brothers Snow White and Rose Red. Entertaining and light listen.

plot holes are size of elephants, not well though out story. Especially last book, like if main she is in islandkingdom and newd to practice fire magic with tutor that is obviously spy for another kingdom, why wouldn't they find some rock, beach or other out of the way place for training. Why to go another kingdom to be brainwashed doesn't make sense. Also nobody didn't ans how long training would take or if she could come home for holidays etc. loke no negotiation at all. Getting kicked out of fairy land is also odd, it's like ouh profecy was changet byee, no trying to use her, no scandal or anything. Performance is good and story goes on well and doesn't get stuck too much to drama.

magic and relationship drama mostly

A charming YA fantasy series with fairy-tale vibes, magical forests, and strong sister dynamics. It offers solid world-building and coming-of-age themes, though the pacing can feel slow and some plot points predictable.

Best for: readers who enjoy light, romantic fantasy with a whimsical feel. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Narrator was good used voice effectively to distinguish between characters. The story was easy to follow and listen to drawing you in to the dark elf realm.

Oh my goodness!! What a journey!! Through time and place a different worlds. The age old story of good versus evil.
Daughters as pawns at the whim of their powerful parents. Will Rose and Neeve end up with some autonomy?
There’s a real fairy tale atmosphere in the trilogy, especially in the first book based in the forest.
There is magic throughout in varying guises.
There is love, a variety of relationships, contrasting locations, secrets and lies.
The Darkwood Trilogy kept me gripped for days - such a rollercoaster - and I was worrying about the main characters when I wasn’t ‘with’ them! I even dreamed about them some nights!
Each kingdom had a totally different feel to it.
I can thoroughly recommend this!!!

Rose and Neeve - will their very dodgy start become a close sisterly bond?
