I loved the first book and narrator, but I wish I had read the reviews before buying this one!
Alister mispronounces many names and common words and phrases, and his slow drawl (sometimes giving the impression that he's almost asleep) really ruins the story for me.
I've listened for over an hour, hopeful of another excellent story, but I really can't continue with this one.

I was really looking forward to this book - The Green Man's Heir is brilliant.
Unfortunately it isn't the same narrator. I couldn't get past chapter 2 as the overly languid drawl and intonation was so irritating.
A lesson in not making assumptions that the same narrator is used in a series, so ALWAYS listen to a sample.

For some reason the narrator keeps drawing out every other vowel like he's trying to do a bad dracula impression. It's worst at the start but gets better after a chapter or two, and while he slips back into it during dramatic bits the story usually helps get you through it.

I did struggle with this at the beginning as I really found the narrators reading and voice a little irritating and I nearly didn’t continue with the story. It’s possibly because I thought the narrator for the green man’s heir was so much better so I associate his voice with the characters. But once I persevered and followed the story, that seemed to bother me less. I enjoyed the story and it was good to hear that they expanded on lore and the world the main characters inhabit. I do recommend the 2 books
