The British MI5 faces off against Oswald Mosley's British Union of Fascists as war threatens Europe.

Brinley Knight has a photographic memory. Bored with his mundane job, he accepts an offer from MI5 to become a full-time spy in a shadowy world of espionage. As Britain stands at the edge of war, Brin learns to his cost that "defending the realm" means duty before family.

Hitler’s fifth columnists in Britain emerge from the darkness as Germany’s military might eyes new territories east of the Rhine. German spies, aristocrats, politicians, wealthy businessmen, anti-Semites, and fascist groups operate in opulent dining rooms and in the back alleys of London’s East End. Menacing predators, they hunt for information that could aid the Führer’s ambitions and stoke fires of division between the Jews, Communists, and British fascists.

Britain is already at war, as the government tries to hold the political parties and British public together before the streets of England burn with hatred and revenge.

A fascinating account of pre WW2. The narration is excellent. I could not stop listening. I found the detail about that period horrifying but the carefully managed interlinking plot lines drew me in. Many thanks! I look forward to hearing more from this writer who is new to me.

Sometimes you listen to a book and automatically are turned off by the narrator. Not in this case. Hooked from the beginning. A great story with twists and turns in every chapter. Wonderful characters and well written. I honestly cant wait to purchase the next book in the series. 😊📖👍

I enjoyed it ( sort of ) though thought the espionage plot was rather a Macguffin - necessary to present a lot of well informed but lengthy history of the period . And the uncovering of the spy was an anti climax . I had expected all the suspense and excitement of Brin suspecting ,hunting & uncovering the traitor within but no , suddenly we were presented with his capture and just a quick retrospective summary of how this had been achieved.

A well researched historical spy novel
