A murder in a public place, a victim who hides his killer’s intent....

A German citizen is murdered in Belfast Botanic Gardens. Investigating, DCI Gawn Girvin concludes it is a revenge killing. But she draws a blank from CCTV and forensics.

The only clue is the top of a perfume bottle found at the scene. As frustration sets in, Girvin develops a hunch that by tracing the victim’s criminal connections, they’ve followed the wrong scent.

A young female university student seen nearby may hold the only key to unlocking the case. And like a bloodhound, Girvin follows the new leads.

But being ex-army, her cold demeanour is a magnet for risk takers. It means she gets results, but also puts herself in danger. And she could be charging into her biggest challenge yet.

The Perfume Killer is Linda Hagan’s debut novel.

I enjoyed this freebie, at times the writing was somewhat twee with the atypical high ranking female seen as a 'B!TcH (author's words). Constantly having to prove herself yadda, yadda, yadda.

For me, the biggest annoyance was the very irritating sing song voice of the Narrator. I think she may have been told it was a fairy tale story. It really was quite a silly tone when folk are being murdered. Just awful.

A good story,

Was a bit sticky to get into, so many different characters and people. But, once I did, it was so worth it, super good listen :)

Didn’t see it coming

I gave the story a decent go. I like Irish detective novels but this one wasn't interesting at all.
Narration was good.
Quite a lot of sentences start with the word 'She', to the point that it's irritating. There are many other ways of describing the past and actions of a female detective, but not in this story.

Really couldn't get into this

Although I was not keen on the narrator in the beginning the story soon grip me. I was convinced I had the murderer twice just for it to be someone else in the end. Can't wait to listen to the next book!

Thoroughly enjoyed it

Had to persevere with this as found the narration of the different accents excruciating and that ruined the story for me. Sorry narrator but that is how I feel.

Reasonable story
