This was a fantastic listen, The Walk is a fictional novel but it is based on accounts of survivors of the institutions that have left a black mark on Irish history. The Magdalene Laundries did an inconceivable amount of damage to women and babies throughout the country and this beautifully written story gives us a good idea of what it might have been like for these people and their families and gave some perspective in that survivors and their families will be living with the consequences of this period even still. Marns' characters are rich, distinct and extremely well performed by Erin Connolly whose voice is very strong throughout despite the challenges of several accents. By the end of the book I felt I knew Maire, Ailbe and Bridget well and I loved their stories. Maith thú.
