About this listen

An infamous relic hunter. A legendary dragon. The journey of a lifetime.

Twillo lies bleeding out in a volcanic desert. Towering over him is a snarling red wolf, death only seconds away. Right as his vision is going black, a mysterious voice offers Twillo a chance at survival.

Do you agree to bind souls?

It is the voice of a dragon, one that hasn't been seen for hundreds of years. By agreeing to soulbind with the dragon, Twillo will tie himself to the dragon's destiny, one of future conflict. He will need to cultivate the highly illegal magic power known as dragonessence, and seek instruction across the Four Kingdoms of the Sagaland. It will take practice, circumstance, and luck from a divine source.

Even then, Twillo may not survive.

The entire world is at stake. No one knows their fate is in the hands of a mysterious relic hunter turned unlikely hero . . .

Legacy and triumph await, but at what cost?

As with a lot of audios sometimes there better and sometimes worse than the book but Im pleased to say this was the former.
The story is a well crafted world building piece with intensive interactive characters and you know Dragons.
The main characters progress the story very well as we explore interesting sites, meet Yokai which is a staple of cultivation for Coopers writing these days.
Those familiar with previous works will recognise some of those mentioned and having a tomb raider personality of hidden depths gives plenty to work with for action/mystery.
Audio by Mitchell is as expected although the Dragon at times reminds me of Dragonheart /Connery a bit too much at some stages until you get used to it.
A solid and well deserved 5 stars across the board and looking forward to the next audio.

Right, to start with; Author seems to like Japanese mythology and has incorporated a lot of themes and names from there into story. That mostly results in weird and confusing names, beasts and such, which often aren't disclosed too clearly.

Relic hunting MC is some kind of depressed fool running away from his past mistakes and happens to stumble into bond with a dragon, which then becomes a trip to find and take power from things scattered around the land. Fine enough I guess...

Problem is that characters are dull, themes are confusing and narrator's style and choice of accents makes me think of everyone as chronically depressed... With some sounding a lot like early Arnold Schwarzenegger not in particularly good way.

For some this might be even enjoyable journey, but sadly in my case it just doesn't click enough to be such.

2,5⭐ messy mix of Japanese mythology, prog fantasy and dull characters.
