Lydia Montgomery is a Tramp.
After fleeing a tragic past, Lydia’s determined never to go back to the life she left behind at any price. She lands in Grand Haven, California - a city booming with billion-dollar corporations and tech money - and everything changes.
Armed with the only lesson she learned from her mother, Lydia builds a life of routine, solitude, and success.
Nothing is out of reach when you’re beautiful.
Nearly a decade after her arrival, Lydia's the highest paid escort in the city, and only the most influential people in Grand Haven can get near her. She's a goddess among her clients and out of reach to everyone else. Lydia's created the perfect illusion, and no one will take it from her again.
Until a misunderstanding lands her in the office of the city’s most eligible bachelor.
Talent Ridge is Grand Haven royalty. Despite running in the same circles as Lydia’s clients, he’s scandal-free and on his way to being the most powerful man in the area.
Their chemistry is undeniable, but a relationship has the potential to destroy everything they’ve worked for. Especially when Lydia is running from her past, and Talent is running toward a future she can never be a part of.
Beauty and money can’t save them this time.
Are Lydia and Talent willing to give it all up for each other, or will their differences cost too much?

I liked Lydia a lot, especially at the beginning. Her strength and her determination were compelling. I thought, later in the book, that she became weak and lost her confidence. But then, she was always hiding her weaknesses behind a mask, so it was expected. Her meeting with Talent lets her show her broken heart.
I was more circumspect about Talent at first. I know that the instant connection is a big thing in romance, but Talent and Lydia’s first meeting was just paid sex, and yet he felt seen? I didn’t buy it. But I have to admit that he grew on me–he’s passionate, sensible, and just extra swoony.
With the story being told only through Lydia’s point of view, we get a lot of her backstory, and it was such an emotional journey! It was gritty, sad, with some sunny moments. Not a happy past though. But her relationships with Inez, then Dog, and finally Camilla, showed how much she open herself up after meeting with Talent.
There was a little bit of suspense, and some violence, that made for an intense final part of the story. Though it involved a huge dump of information, it was necessary since Lydia wasn’t privy it.
I really enjoyed the writing style. At times poetic, at other times almost technical, the words offered Lydia a voice and personality. Some moments were beautifully written.
The narration was perfection! The narrator gave her voice to Lydia’s cold determination and her fragile heart with the same conviction. A real pleasure.

I really liked Lydia and Ridge, but I think my favorite was Inez. The love that she had for Lydia was wonderful to watch. This is definitely worth a read. I think that if it has duel narration it would have put this book over the top for me to a five.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request, and have voluntarily left this review.

I absolutely loved this book! I don’t think I can rave about the world building and love affair enough – it left me breathless! I don’t think I have ever read/listened to a love story written so raw and honest to the point where I actually felt and lived the attraction! Target Ridge and Lydia Montgomery are incredible characters and the premise, though not new, is written so vividly and with depth of emotion the story becomes indelible.
I can’t do this book justice here – it has to be read/listened to. And I mean HAS to!
All I can say is that Mary Elizabeth has a similar writing style to other writers i adore– as in she has a natural way of layering a story, building the images, creating tensions with minimal ease and beautiful words. She weaves the storylines with golden threads of delight, creating dreamscapes that captivate and thrill the reader/listener, and pacing the story to perfection.
Incredibly, this story was narrated by Stella Hunter, who has magic in her voice - so expressive and sensitive to the emotions of the characters, and expertly moving from one character to the next with the ease of a very experienced voice actor. Exquisite! This was an incredible combination. I can’t wait to read/listen to book 2 in the Hush series!
Mary Elizabeth was a new author for me but now I am going to settle back and read everything she has ever written! That’s how amazing her writing is!
Amazing!
