Welcome to the Lilydale Foundation Center... home of second chances. At least, that's what they tell us it is. It's basically a glorified prison and asylum for the deranged with good alibis.

When the police pulled me out of my burning home, along with what was left of my Father, I was deemed broken — even if I was the reason the fire started.

So, here I am at my new home. They think they can save us with their fancy facility. But what insane person decided it was a good idea to put a bunch of young, unhinged people together?

It's just asking for trouble.

Unhinged is a why-choose dark romance. It contains adult themes, sensitive topics, and is solely intended for mature audiences over 18. It is recommended that listeners check the trigger warnings before diving in. Unhinged is book 1 in the Dance with my Demons series.

First audio book I have pre ordered on here and it was soooo worth it to get my fix of what happens next as soon as I can

The story for this one again was great didn't let me down from the first one the progression finally between Riley and Damon happened and I was like yes so I'm on the edge of my bed waiting for book three to see what happens next there especially with Greys reaction
4.5 stars for the story and there was definitely more spice in this one between Riley, Grey & Theo so was happy for those moments

Joe Arden again was on top form his voice is just perfection for me when it comes to audios
audio

Corvin King as well done an amazing job and his phycho laugh okay is now my joint top with Joe's I could have thier phycho laughs as my ring tone 🤭

Anthony Palmini done great too although I would like more of him as Theo and less of him as the other characters he voices but his chilling sing muttering as the Dr gave me chills he done it in the first book and I was like creepy he done it in this one and because I could tell what was going to happen I got chills he hit that sinister tone perfectly

Marie Hawkins is probably now one of my favourite female narrators I will definitely take a look at what other things she has done

Now the wait to know what happens next these cliffhangers are killing me 😫😆

🎧Review🎧 Oh yeah the trio is back 🤌🏽🥴🥵😈

I had this book on my shelf for ages but I’m so glad I didn’t get around to reading it until the audio book came out because this book was absolutely amazing, these characters were unhinged and I loved how well the narrators did to bring these characters to life and I have to say that I loveeee how unhinged they sounded too!

Excellent performance from the narrators

So, I have dipped my toe into the world of dark romance before, but I imagine true afficionados would point and laugh at my experience to date. I thought I was stepping it up a notch by diving into this series... so either I've been a bit misled by the bookish community, or my mental state means I may need a spot in Lilydale...

Don't get me wrong; the story is comprised almost entirely of dark and twisted elements; from the mental facility setting and it's abominable management, to the reasons for Avery being incarcerated, to the perverse joy other characters get out of watching others suffer. None of the characters here are remotely healthy, at least from a broad perspective. But I found as I was listening that none of them came across as particularly deranged either. Even with their issues, the men in particular just seemed like fairly standard dark romance MMCs. There's definitely nothing wrong with that, and I was certainly drawn into their web, but I think I was expecting something a little more unhinged than what I got.

This is definitely more down to the writing than the narration; Corvin King does a wonderful job (as always) with his narration of Gray; I do love how he can switch from that slightly manic, happy book boyfriend to the murd3rous, dark psychopath in a blink. Anthony Palmini somehow manages to pick up not only Theo's quiet menace and make me swoon for him, but also deals with all of the secondary male voices as well and, for the most part, makes each and every one distinguishable, so even when he's voicing both characters in a conversation you know exactly what's happening. And, putting aside the fact he would never be my narrator of choice, Joe Arden definitely knows how to portray the unfeeling sociopath in Damon.

As for Avery, I think I was having a problem imagining her in what essentially is a prison for the mentally ill, full of k!llers. I grant you, my knowledge of the US prison and justice system is a bit ropey, but the premise for her being there just didn't quite sit right with me. I get that the justice system would punish her for her sins, but where she's a victim as well, I just couldn't quite get it to compute that they'd allocate her to that particular facility. That being said, so much of the goings on are "unbelievable", that by the end of the book I'd let go of reality and was just going with it.

It's a fast-paced narrative, possibly to the point where it does feel like it's lacking depth in places. It's only little things, but while I know there's 100 people in the facility I never got the impression of the world being "inhabited" by more than just the featured characters. Likewise, and as mentioned above, there is a lot you just have to "go with" at this point; I'm assuming things will be explained later on in the series, but for now I'm missing rhe grounding elements. However, it's so easy to digest that I'm definitely going to listen to the rest, probably in quick succession!

Not quite as Unhinged as I was expecting...
