1829. Mahikeng Mission Station. Highveld, southern Africa.

The warrior king is dead. Ralph Courtney and Ann Waite have escaped. From the chaos and bloodshed that consumed the Zulu nation after the murder of King Shaka. From Ralph's enemies. From the man who would have enslaved Ann and sold her to the highest bidder. Now Ralph and Ann, and their son Harry, are safe. Rescued by the missionaries at Mahikeng, they can finally dream of a new life. Or can they . . . ?

Can Ralph finally lay to rest the ghosts that haunt him? Can Ann overcome the enemy she believed they'd escaped forever? Can Harry make his peace with the secrets and lies that have shaped his life? On a blood-soaked battlefield, as a new nation is forged in violence and slaughter, all three will be given a choice - to succumb to the past, or to stand and fight for their family's future.

Blood, vengeance and destiny collide in the latest thrilling installment from the bestselling master of adventure, Wilbur Smith.

Love these long sagas & this is not far off being up to Wilbur Smith's best, despite the fact that he's no longer with us. Can't beat Sean Barrett as narrator so thoroughly enjoyed this & sad it's finished. Love the Courtney's

Great saga

This was a fine, very interesting novel based on historic events, well researched by the authors. As always the pace of the story kept one glued to the recording as the grezt characters in the story faught their own demons and feelings. One thought how awful it must have been for so many sent to Australia in the past. Their dreadfully painful life was described so well one could really feel for them. A super book very well written and researched. I love your South African adventures and always have over 50 years now. The narration too was excellent. Thank you.

Finally this book is out ive been waiting for a while, ive even gone through the whole series again because its so good! This book did not disappoint and just like all the other books I am stuck wanting more. I have listened to all of the courtney series, every single book and have loved them! This book was so refreshing, Ive been waiting to find out what happens next for a while and im really happy with how this book carried on the story and left room for more! Having listened to this series of books more then 1 time i can say Sean barrett is as fantastic as usual I could listen to him narrate any book! On top of that the story being full of twists and turns i just could not stop listening! Thank you for this book! The only thing I would ask is to keep going with the series and keep sean as the narrator its just perfect. From the ending of this book i would say there is still room for more and I would be first in line to read it! I highly recommend this series to anyone who likes adventure, passion, love, war and many other things.

Awesome

If you've listened to all the others in this series, you'll like this too. It isn't the best, but it follows the formula and will scratch the itch for a good Courtney book (capable misunderstood man suffers and overcomes adversity. Boys rebelling against fathers. Passionate love for women and family as a north star for action. The beauty of Africa and respect for it's people)... Perhaps not as strong since the appearance of two authors on the cover. Sean Barrett is one of my favourite narrators but his gruff rumble seems to have weakened a little in recent years.

Very good but not the best
