Today we talk about the cure.

Because here’s the truth:

You cannot be fully loved if you are not fully known.

And people-pleasers are rarely fully known.

They are admired.

They are appreciated.

But they are not known.

Today we’re stepping on some toes — starting with our own.

We’re talking about people-pleasing.

Everybody wants to be wanted.

That’s not weakness. That’s human.

God wired us for connection.

Genesis 2:18 — “It is not good that man should be alone.”

We need love. We need belonging.

But here’s where it turns toxic:

When the desire to be loved becomes the demand to be liked.

That’s when approval turns into addiction.

Here’s a Pastor Steve-ism:

“When approval becomes your oxygen, rejection feels like suffocation.”

And some of us are gasping for air.

Today we’re talking about something every real leader faces but not everyone survives.

Leading through the valley.

Not the mountaintop. Not the growth season. Not when everything’s clicking and going well.

But when it’s Tough.

When momentum slows.
When criticism increases.
When people disappoint you.
When you’re tired—but you’re still responsible.

Russ, valleys reveal what Titles hide.

“Obedience doesn’t always feel right, but it’s always right.” Our emotions are like weather — constantly changing. But the Word of God is like the foundation of a house — solid and unshakable. You gotta build it on a firm foundation.

Jeremiah 17 says, “The heart is deceitful above all things.” So when we say, “I just have to follow my heart,” that can be dangerous. As believers, we’re called to follow His Word, not our feelings.

Recovery starts long before your behavior changes—it starts in your thinking.

“Your life is always moving in the direction of your strongest thoughts.”

That’s why Paul says in Romans 12:2, “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

Transformation doesn’t start with willpower—it starts with mind renewal.

Today we’re hitting a question that goes deeper than sobriety. It’s about identity. The topic of todays podcast is: Who Am I Without the Addiction?

When we release a bad habit we have to replace it with a good one otherwise we are destined to repeat the cycle. Addiction tells you who you are. It creates labels like failure, liar, junkie, worthless . But those labels are lies.

Ephesians 2:10 says, “We are God’s masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus to do good works.”

That means our identity was written by God before addiction ever showed up. It’s not who you are! We have to remember that our Identity is in Christ.
