Father's Day made me think about something differently this year. Not just as a day for my kids to celebrate me, but as something bigger. So I built this whole episode around one question. What actually makes a good father?
I couldn't answer it with one man. It took six. My grandfather, who drove fuel through occupied France in the dark during World War Two (Red Ball Express) and never once complained about the ceiling he hit afterward. My father, who taught me Ownership with two words I didn't understand until decades later, and taught me Action by refusing to bail me out when I needed diaper money. My own sons, and what I hope they take further than I did. My stepsons, and what it means to respect a position even when you don't love the man in it. My son-in-law, and the kind of father I already know he'll be. And one more, the one that isn't a single man at all.
Six men. Six pillars. One complete picture of what fatherhood actually requires.
This one runs longer than usual. I didn't trim it. Some stories need the room.
This episode connects to all six pillars of FOPICA: Focus, Ownership, Persistence, Intentionality, Clarity, and Action.
The FOPICA Principle is available now on Amazon in paperback and Kindle.
How Long Do I Wait to Honk? is also available on Amazon.
