It's just as prideful to say "I'm too good for this...I don't need this" than to say "I could never do this...He would never choose me."
In other words, saying you're "too good" is just like saying you're "so bad." It comes from a prideful place often disguised as false humility.
But God wants more for you...
In this episode, Justin and Don discuss how to remove yourself from prideful ways, contrasting current cultural views of pride with biblical teaching that Jesus calls followers to deny themselves, that God opposes the proud (character misalignment), and that humility opens the way for God to work. They describe pride as often hidden, rooted in insecurity, and an “armor of darkness” that blocks truth, repentance, transformation, and even effective ministry. Using examples like seeking compliments, taking offense, and image-protection, they argue pride fuels anger, bitterness, and resentment, while humility brings freedom, healthier relationships, and spiritual growth. They connect pride to the Genesis fall and present the gospel as God sending Jesus—who served instead of being served, avoided personal glory, and sacrificed his own life—so people can repent, be saved, follow the Holy Spirit, and live in peace, joy, and rest.
