Nancy A. Barsamian, DNP, MPH, BSN, is an Assistant Professor at the Tan Chingfen Graduate School of Nursing at UMass Chan School of Medicine, where she also earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. She is a founding member of the Nursing Global Health Pathway, contributing to the development of globally focused nursing education and training.
Dr. Barsamian serves as adjunct faculty at the American University of Armenia's Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, where she teaches healthcare quality and safety and provides leadership development training for senior nursing students in the United States. She holds a Master of Public Health from Boston University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Ursuline College. Her scholarly and professional work centers on global health education, nursing workforce development, and interdisciplinary palliative care, with a particular focus on improving care for individuals with dementia in Armenia. With over a decade of clinical experience in acute care nursing specializing in neurosurgery and cardiology she brings a strong practice foundation to her academic and global health initiatives.
Dr. Barsamian has held roles in healthcare quality improvement at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and in elder abuse prevention with the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office. Since initiating her work in Armenia through USAID in 1993, she has remained actively engaged in advancing nursing education, leading trainings, and organizing professional conferences. She serves on the board of the Armenian American Medical Association and advises Alzheimer's Care Armenia, the Women's Support Center and Fund for Armenia's Recovery.
