Summary

This installment turns from the image of two governments to the constitutional text that creates the vertical axis. Congress receives enumerated powers; states begin from retained sovereignty and are limited by specific prohibitions. The point is not just who has power, but how the Constitution tells us where that power starts and stops.

Season 0 – The Architecture of Power is the foundational watch-first season for Doctrine Deep Dives. It maps the vertical federal/state axis and the horizontal separation-of-powers axis, using the Authorize -> Constrain -> Gap frame on constitutional structure itself.

Table of Contents
  1. Article I, Section 8 as the list of federal powers
  2. Why the national government can reach only as far as the constitutional grant reaches
  3. Article I, Section 10 as a list of state prohibitions
  4. Madison’s framing: federal powers are few and defined, state powers numerous and indefinite
