In this episode of We Don't Talk About That, hosts Linda Coogan Byrne and Ndidi O are joined by Jada Watson, founder of SongData and Associate Professor at the University of Ottawa.
Through SongData, Jada uses music industry data to uncover gender and racial inequalities across radio, streaming and the wider music business. Her research has helped shape broadcasting policy and challenge long-held assumptions about representation in music.
Together they discuss gender equity, radio airplay, music policy, industry gatekeeping and how data can drive meaningful cultural change.
At its heart, this is a conversation about who gets heard, who gets overlooked, and why the numbers tell a story the music industry can no longer ignore.
