Hope that the ceasefire in the Middle East will be extended.

Dóchas go mbeidh síneadh leis an sos lámhaigh sa Mheánoirthear.

There is now strong hope that the ceasefire between the United States and Iran will be extended.

dóchas láidir anois ann go gcuirfear síneadh leis an sos lámhaigh idir na Stáit Aontaithe agus an Iaráin.

It is said that the new ceasefire will last 60 days and that the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened so that ships can bring goods and oil from Asian countries to Western countries more easily.

Deirtear go mbeidh fad 60 lá ag an sos lámhaigh nua agus go n-osclófar Caolas Hormuz in athuair le go mbeidh longa in ann earraí agus ola a thabhairt ó thíortha san Áis chuig tíortha an Iarthair ar bhealach níos scafánta.

However, neither US President Donald Trump nor Iranian leaders have given their blessing to any new agreement yet.

Níl a bheannacht tugtha áfach ag Uachtarán Mheiriceá Donald Trump ná ag ceannairí na hIaráine d’aon chomhaontú nua go fóill.

Attack on a drone control center in southern Iran.

Ionsaí ar ionad stiúrtha drón i ndeisceart na hIaráine.

A US government spokesman has confirmed that the American air force attacked a drone control center belonging to Iranian military forces in the Strait of Hormuz overnight.

Tá sé deimhnithe ag urlabhraí ó Rialtas na Stát Aontaithe gur ionsaigh aerfhórsa Mheiriceá ionad stiúrtha drón le fórsaí míleata na hIaráine i gCaolas Hormuz i gcaitheamh na hoíche.

The spokesman said the Americans also shot down four drones when they attacked the base in the port of Bandar Abbas.

Dúirt an t-urlabhraí gur chuir na Meiriceánaigh ceithre dhrón go talamh chomh maith nuair a d’ionsaigh siad an bhunáit i gcalafort Bandar Abbas.

In retaliation, as they themselves said, Iranian forces attacked a military base belonging to the United States.

Ina éiric sin, mar a dúirt siad féin, d’ionsaigh fórsaí na hIaráine bunáit mhíleata leis na Stáit Aontaithe.

Although the Iranians did not say which base was attacked, authorities in Kuwait have indicated that several missiles and drones were fired at that country.

Cé nach ndúirt na hIaránaigh cén bhunáit go baileach (which base exactly) a ionsaíodh, tá sé tugtha le fios ag na húdaráis i gCuáit gur scaoileadh roinnt diúracán agus drón leis an tír sin.

Officially, a ceasefire has been in place in the region since the beginning of April, but it is unclear what direction it is heading – whether it will be consolidated or fall apartespecially since US President Donald Trump has often and simultaneously played both sides of the fence in relation to it.

Go hoifigiúil, tá sos comhraic i bhfeidhm sa réigiún ó thús an Aibreáin ach níl sé soiléir cén treo atá faoi – an ndaingneofar é nó an dtitfidh sé as a chéilego háirithe ó tá an dá phort ag Uachtarán Mheiriceá Donald Trump go minic agus ag an am céanna i ndáil leis.

The price of oil has risen again on international markets in light of the latest attacks after falling 5% yesterday.

praghas ola ardaithe arís ar na margaí idirnáisiúnta i bhfianaise na n-ionsaithe is deireanaí tar eis dó titim 5 faoin gcéad inné.

A 14% increase in the number of unemployed people since the beginning of the year.

Ardú 14 faoin gcéad ar an líon daoine dífhostaithe ó thús na bliana.

The number of people unemployed in the State increased by more than 14% in the first quarter of the year compared to the same quarter last year, according to new figures from the Central Statistics Office.

Tháinig ardú de bhreis agus 14 faoin gcéad ar an líon daoine a bhí dífhostaithe sa Stát sa chéad ráithe den bhliain i gcomparáid leis an ráithe chéanna anuraidh, de réir figiúirí nua ón bPríomh-Oifig Staidrimh.

141,800 people were unemployed in the first three months of 2026, an increase of 17,600 from last year, and brings the unemployment rate to 4.9%.

141,800 duine a bhí dífhostaithe sa chéad trí mhí de 2026, sin ardú de 17,600 ó anuraidh, agus fágann sé gur 4.9 faoin gcéad atá sa ráta dífhostaíochta.

More than any other sector, the information and communications sector saw the largest drop in employment – 20,300 fewer than last year, a drop of 10.7%.

Thar aon earnáil eile, ba san earnáil faisnéise agus cumarsáide bhí an titim ba mhó sa líon fostaithe – 20,300 níos lú ná anuraidh, ar titim de 10.7 faoin gcéad é sin.

80% of those people were programmers and consultants, according to the figures.

Ríomhchláraitheoirí agus comhairleoirí ab ea 80 faoin gcéad de na daoine sin, de réir na bhfigiúirí.

Conversely, the number of people employed also increased in the first quarter of the year.

Os a choinne sin, tháinig ardú chomh maith ar an líon daoine a bhí fostaithe sa chéad ráithe den bhliain.

It was a very small increase, 400 people, and it leaves 2,794,500 people employed in the State in the first three months of 2026.

Ardú an-bheag a bhí ann, 400 duine, agus fágann sé go raibh 2,794,500 duine fostaithe sa Stát sa chéad trí mhí de 2026.

Since it is such a small increase, statisticians do not include it as a percentage.

Ós ardú chomh beag sin é, más ea, ní áiríonn lucht staidrimh é go céatadánach.

Absolute rubbish. You won’t learn Irish from this podcast. Just a series of random statements from current affairs ( which won’t be current anymore). Might be useful if you already speak Irish and want to practice listening skills if you can stand the painful speech. Otherwise avoid.
