Summary

What happens when you ask a world traveler, a life-coach, a one-woman-show-stopper and (finally) sober woman from the South what she thinks about life? You get “Now That You Ask.” A podcast that looks at topics that range from death to desire, and from wondrous to downright whacky. Akasha Halsey is a woman who after seventy-five years on this planet, is ready to have her say! The podcasts are short (the time it takes to down a cup of coffee) and while they will often make you smile, they will always make you think.Akasha Halsey Social Sciences

For years, the quote “Wherever you are is the entry point” has followed me through my life, appearing at the exact moments when I most needed to hear it. In this episode, I reflect on the winding road of becoming who I truly am. What began in my thirties as a hopeful spiritual search slowly turned into something far less polished and far more real. Along the way there were wrong turns, heartbreak, disappointments, losses, and moments when I was certain I had failed entirely.

But each time life brought me to my knees, I discovered that the place I wanted to escape was also the place I had to begin again. I share how learning to slow down, listen inward, and trust my own instincts changed the way I see myself and the journey I am on. I no longer believe there is a finish line waiting for me somewhere ahead. Instead, I am learning to love where I am now while remaining open to whatever life still has to teach me.

I recently came across the idea that we are both a masterpiece and a work in progress at the very same time, and something inside me softened when I heard it. In this episode, I reflect on the lifelong effort of trying to become a better person while slowly learning to recognize how far I’ve already come. It is easy for me to focus on the flaws, the old habits, and the moments when I fall short. It is much harder to celebrate the quiet victories that reveal real change taking place.

As I share a small but meaningful moment of patience and self-awareness, I begin to see that growth may not be about perfection at all. Maybe it is about noticing. Noticing when I respond differently, when I choose kindness over frustration, or when I finally allow myself a little credit instead of criticism. I am learning to celebrate those moments with the same enthusiasm I once reserved for fixing myself. Somewhere between striving and accepting, I can feel a deeper appreciation for who I already am becoming.

  • 250. Inner Beauty
    Apr 30 2026

I’ve always been drawn to beauty - the kind that stops me in my tracks - whether it’s in nature, art, or a fleeting moment of connection. But in this episode, I turn that lens inward and ask a more difficult question: why has it been so hard for me to see that same beauty in myself?

As I reflect on self-acceptance, compliments I’ve brushed aside, and a surprising moment of confidence at a recent gathering, I begin to understand that inner beauty isn’t something I find. It’s something I allow. It asks me to see all of who I am with a little more honesty and a lot more love. I’m learning, slowly, to soften toward myself, to let the good in, and to believe that the beauty I so easily recognize in others might just live in me too.
