Episode Notes: A Church Worth Thanking God For. (Ephesians 1: 15-23)

When Paul reaches verse 15 of Ephesians 1, something beautiful happens. He pauses. He reflects. And he gives thanks.

He gives thanks, not for buildings, not for finance, not for programmes, and not for influence. He gives thanks for people — for their faith in Christ and their love for all God’s people. These two qualities, Paul says, are the unmistakable marks of a true church. Not cleverness. Not the charisma of the leader. Not size. Not even success.... But faith and love.

Faith in the Lord Jesus — a deep, living trust.

And Love for God’s people, a practical, sacrificial affection.

Because Paul knows something we often forget. That you cannot love Christ without loving people, you cannot love people without being involved with them. You cannot grow in faith without other Christian believers.

  • Why Do People Go to Church? (Ephesians 1: 3-14) Part 2.
    Jun 5 2026

    Send us Fan Mail

The Bible Project Daily Podcast is an in-depth, daily study of the entire Bible, chapter by chapter, verse by verse.

This is part two of a single, longer recording and message based on this one passage of scripture. Full transcript for both episodes is with part 1.

Episode Notes: Why Do People Go to Church? (Ephesians 1: 3-14)

Why do people go to church?

It’s a question we rarely ask out loud, but it sits quietly beneath the surface of every church on every Sunday morning.

Some people go because they always have, and their parents went. Some go because they feel they ought to. Some go because they’re lonely and some go because they’re hurting.

Some go because they’re hungry, not for food, but for meaning, for hope, for God.

…. And some — if we’re honest — aren’t entirely sure why they go at all.

But Paul, in Ephesians 1:3–14, gives us an answer that is far deeper, far richer, far more beautiful than any of those surface‑level reasons. He tells us that the reason we gather, the reason we worship, the reason we belong to a church at all… is because God has done something astonishing for us in Christ.

Episode Notes: Blessing God by Blessing Each Other. (Eph 1: 3)

We now arrive at one of the most breathtaking transitions in all of Paul’s writings.

After the greeting — those gentle words of grace and peace — Paul takes a deep breath, lifts his eyes, and launches into a sentence so long, so rich, so overflowing with praise that in the original Greek it runs for 202 uninterrupted words.

And it all begins with this:

    We are…. “In Christ.”

This is not a metaphor. Nor is it a poetic flourish or some sort of a spiritual slogan…. This is about the change of our humanity…..

Episode Notes: A Good Place to Start (Ephesians 1: 1-3)

If the last episode was about lifting our eyes to the vast landscape of Paul’s world and God’s eternal purposes, today is about taking that first quiet step into the text itself. And truly, this is a good place to start because Paul begins not with instruction, not with correction, not with urgency, but with blessing.

    He begins with grace.

    He begins with peace.

He begins with identity, and that’s where we begin too….

Episode Notes: Stepping Into Ephesus. Ephesians, Introduction and Overview.

A messenger has arrived from far away. He carries a letter. Not just any letter, a letter from a man they have heard about but never met. A man whose reputation has travelled farther than he ever could. A man who has been beaten, shipwrecked, imprisoned, and yet somehow is still shaping the world.

    The letter is opened.

    And the room falls silent.

This is the moment the church in Ephesus first heard the words we now call Ephesians. A letter that would outlive empires, reshape theology, and call believers across centuries to live in the light of their calling.

And today, we begin that journey together through that letter.

  • Between the season Bonus Episode. A History of The Christian Church (Part 37) Bernard of Clairvaux.
    May 29 2026

    Send us Fan Mail

A Taster Episode from my "History of The Christian Church Podcast". 2000 years of Christian thought told through the ideas of its greatest thinkers....

This is my latest episode: No 37. Episode, Season 3 - The Medieval Church - Episode 9.

    Welcome:

What happens when the church becomes too clever? What happens when faith is no longer something to be lived, but something to be analysed? That is the world we stepped into with Peter Abelard in our last episode.

But not everyone welcomed that change, because, amid that rising tide of intellectual confidence, another voice began to speak. His name was Bernard of Clairvaux. And these two worldviews would collide. The world of the philosopher…. and the world of the monk.

Their conflict would not just shape their own lives, but it would shape the direction of medieval theology itself. And this still matters because, at its core, this is not just a story about the twelfth century. It is a story about every generation of the church.

So, join me in today’s episode…. As we step into the life, the passion, and the fierce convictions of Bernard of Clairvaux.

The man who stood against the rising tide of intellectualism and called the church back to what, well, maybe to the heart of the Christian faith.

This is my Bi-Monthly podcast that seeks to respond to and engage with the world of Philosophy and current trends in the Arts and Entertainment from a Christian Perspective.

Season 1 - Part 11. Zeno, Empedocles, and Anaxagoras - Paradox, Powers, and the Mind Behind the Cosmos.

This is the episode in which the Presocratic world becomes even stranger by the entry of three remarkable figures—each brilliant in their own way, each eccentric, each offering a different way forward.

Zeno of Elea — The Master of Paradox
He is the first philosopher to make the world feel like a glitch in the matrix.
Empedocles — The Poet, Magician, and Scientist.
It is poetry disguised as physics, or is it physics disguised as poetry, but it was the first attempt to explain change without denying permanence.
Then Anaxagoras — The Philosopher Who Introduced the concept of the mind
Finally, we arrive at Anaxagoras, the thinker who brought something entirely new into the conversation:
Nous—The Mind. and that behind creation stands a Mind, a Logos, a Creator.... So step into the world of paradoxes, cosmic forces, and the first philosophical vision of a universe shaped by intelligence….
