In the winter of 1987, a traveling census taker named Elias Thorne arrived at Pender County Poor Farm to update the county rolls. He found forty-seven residents listed in the ledger, but the building held only forty-six bodies. The missing man was a mute known only as 'Latch,' who had been admitted six years prior and had never spoken a word. Elias stayed three days, sleeping in the attic office, trying to reconcile the living count with the dead. On the third night, he heard scratching from inside the walls — not vermin, but deliberate, repetitive patterns. He broke open a plaster seam in the dormitory and found a slate tablet wedged between the studs, covered in fine white script that repeated one phrase in a tight spiral: 'I am still here.' The tablet is now in my possession. I transcribed it. The script doesn't stop when you remove the slate from the wall. It keeps appearing — on my ledger, on my windowsill, on the back of my hand when I wake. This is what Elias told me before he stopped returning my calls. #PenderCountyPoorFarm #Latch #EliasThorne #SlateTablet #CensusTaker #MissingMan #Winter1987 #ScratchingWalls #WhiteScript #IAmStillHere #FexingoHorror #HorrorPodcast #ReverendsLedger #LedgerEntry54 #PoorFarm #MuteResident #AtticOffice #PlasterSeam Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
