A small boy is left sitting on a park bench in St. Augustine, Florida, by his father. Before the father walks off, he pins a note to the boy's shirt and tells him he will be back soon. He never returns. A homeless street artist takes the boy in and teaches him the tools necessary to live on the street - how to stay dry on rainy nights and warm on cold ones and how to find or earn enough money to get by.
