Once, a boy named Oliver resided in a small town nestled amid a lushery of green hills. His family’s house was on the city's outskirts, where the forest started. A distinct but gentle stream at the back of their house curled through the tall brightness of the grasses and flowers, buzzing softly with little ripples soothing to Oliver. However, experience the spirit for which the house was truly a home–that was the warmth and the love in that house.

Embarking on a journey that began in 1969, I found myself captivated by the simple yet profound art of kite flying. This passion has not only allowed me to dance with the winds but has also connected me to a rich tapestry of history and culture that spans centuries and continents. Kites have always been more than mere toys; they are embodiments of human ingenuity and the timeless desire to touch the sky. Originating in China around 200 BC, kites were initially tools of war and communication.

The town of Ashbury hadn’t changed much not in the way Christopher Hale remembered it. The same crooked white fences lined the winding country roads, the same ancient oak trees leaned toward the sky like tired sentinels, and the same stillness clung to the air as if the town held its breath. But he had changed. In ways, he couldn’t yet explain, in ways that couldn’t be seen in the reflection of a mirror. He felt it in the weight of every step he took across the gravel path leading up to the inn, in the way his heart thudded heavier with each breath of familiar spring air.
