Grace has been running for weeks from something called the Grume — a monster that can't be killed permanently, only temporarily, and gains immunity to every weapon used against it. Then Nick killed it with Grace's crossbow. Now the Grume is immune to yet another weapon, and it's coming after Nick and his crew.

The Demon Continent definitely holds at least some answers to their troubles, as long as they can find Grea's father and convince him to aid them.
