"The Evil Clergyman" is an excerpt from a letter written by American horror fiction writer H. P. Lovecraft in 1933. After his death, it was published in the April 1939 issue of Weird Tales as a short story. The story was later adapted into the unreleased 1987 anthology film Pulse Pounders. "History of the Necronomicon" is a short text written by H. P. Lovecraft in 1927, and published in 1938. It describes the origins of the fictional book of the same name: the occult grimoire Necronomicon, a now-famous element of some of his stories. The short text purports to be non-fiction, adding to the appearance of 'pseudo-authenticity' which Lovecraft valued in building his Cthulhu Mythos oeuvre. Accordingly, it supposes the history of the Necronomicon as the inspiration for Robert W. Chambers' The King in Yellow, which concerns a book that overthrows the minds of those who read it.

"The Festival" is a short story by H. P. Lovecraft written in October 1923 and published in the January 1925 issue of Weird Tales.

"The Nightingale and the Rose" A nightingale overhears a student complaining that the professor's daughter will not dance with him, as he is unable to give her a red rose; a lizard, a butterfly and a daisy laugh at the student for doing so. The nightingale visits all the rose-trees in the garden, and one of the roses tells her there is a way to produce a red rose, but only if the nightingale is prepared to sing the sweetest song for the rose all night with her heart pressing into a thorn, sacrificing her life.

"The Remarkable Rocket" This story concerns a firework, who is one of many to be let off at the wedding of a prince and princess. The rocket is extremely pompous and self-important, and denigrates all the other fireworks, eventually bursting into tears to demonstrate his "sensitivity". As this makes him wet, he fails to ignite, and, the next day, is thrown away into a ditch. He still believes that he is destined for great public importance, and treats a frog, dragonfly, and duck that meet him with appropriate disdain. Two boys find him, and use him for fuel on their camp-fire.

Inspector Lestrade invites Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson to help with a most disturbing case. Two veterans of the Second Afghan War have been murdered in their London apartments. The suspected perpetrator appears to be a Pashtun warrior tribesman decapitating his victims.

After a series of attacks on the Ottoman administration in Palestine, Sherlock Holmes receives an order from the British government: he is to travel to Jerusalem with Dr. Watson to track down the disruptors and prevent any further destabilization of the region.

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are invited to the wax museum of the Tussaud family. In the chamber of horrors, alongside the wax figures, there lies a real human corpse of mysterious origin.

Scotland Yard is asking Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson for assistance in a high class restaurant in London. The Chef was murdered in a perfidious way not surpassed in atrociousness.

Sherlock Holmes receives a delicate mission. King Cetshwayo, representing the Zulu from South Africa, was poisoned during his stay in London. A swift and discrete investigation is necessary.
