Hi there. Anthony here. I thought I’d take a minute to tell you a bit about my books rather than myself because, let’s be honest nobody cares which football team I support, or what type of shoes I wear, or how many potatoes I can eat in one sitting. The books, however, are quite interesting, albeit a little difficult to genrefy (is that even a word? It should be). In other words, it’s time that you, the reader, found out what you’re about to experience when you dive headfirst into The Nearly Dearly Departed Club. Firstly, let’s deal with the title. Most people seem to like it, some don’t. I thought it sounded clever, so maybe I was just showing off. No maybe about it. It’s part of a series, the first of many, so if you enjoy one you’ll hopefully enjoy the rest. That’s the plan at least, and like Hannibal used to say in the A-Team, I love it when a plan comes together. Is it a thriller? Kind of. A mystery? In a way. Crime fiction? Yes, crimes are at the forefront of the stories. Right, that’s cleared that up then. Part thriller, part mystery, part crime. It’s definitely darkly humorous. Sarcastic rather than cruel. Laughing in the face of danger rather than laughing at someone who’s had their head trapped in a washing machine. It’s character driven, most of whom are fully fleshed out. Nonone dimensional villains here, thank you very much. It’s dialogue heavy. Also known as lots of chat between the characters. I’m not overly fond of mammoth descriptions of trees or sunsets or guns or whatever, so you won’t find three pages about the tyres on a Vauxhall Astra. I write in short chapters. I love short chapters. Everybody loves shorts chapters. Except for those readers who love long chapters (that’s obvious. I don’t need to write that. I’m not getting paid per word). It’s a fast-paced, binge-worthy, page-turner (or so I’m told by at least seven readers per week. For the record, they might be telling me lies. There’s no way of actually find out). Oh. I’ve just read this back and realised it’s huge. No one will get this far (not unless they love long chapters). There are also far too many brackets, but I like brackets so they’re staying. Right to summarise… The Nearly Dearly Departed Club - a darkly humorous, fast-paced, binge-worthy, page-turning, part thriller, part mystery, part crime fiction novel with lots of dialogue and short chapters. Wow, that’s catchy. Who wouldn’t want to read that? Anthony Grace, June 2026, slowly losing my mind whilst tapping at a keyboard …
